Course Overview
The objective of this course is to prepare the student for AP Calculus. Topics covered include:
functions and graphs, polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions,
trigonometry (graphs, identities and equations), analytic geometry and limits.
Grading Procedure
Tests/Quizzes
70%
Given periodically throughout each chapter. These assessments will usually be traditional
tests. The student has the opportunity to improve test scores within one week of the
original test being returned to them if retake standards are met.
Homework/Notes/Projects
30%
 Homework
Homework is designed to give students practice on the skills introduced in class and create
questions to be addressed. Students will be assessed on completion and understanding of
homework. It is the student’s responsibility to develop understanding through questioning
and practice. If a student cannot complete the problems on the assignment it is very
important that they mark these problems and ask questions the following day or stay after
school for extra help.
 Homework will be reviewed the following day. At this time if students have questions
they need to ask.
 Students will need to KEEP all homework in spiral notebook.
 Homework will be checked daily for effort and completion. It is expected that students
complete/attempt every problem on the assignment in order to receive full credit for
the assignment.
 No work, No Credit, NO KIDDING!!!!!! Students must show all of their work in order to
receive credit on a homework assignment.
 If a student is absent during the week, it will be their responsibility to complete the
missing homework, get questions addressed and show the completed work to the
teacher for daily credit within 2 days of absence in order to receive full credit.
 Late work will be accepted for partial credit, but must be submitted before the unit test.
No work will be accepted once the chapter test is taken.
 Notes/Journal
Assessed periodically throughout the course. Graded for thoroughness, neatness and
organization. Journaling is vital in your success in this course. You must be able to use and
understand this tool. If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to get information
from someone in class.
 Projects
Projects will give students the opportunity to apply the material to a real-life situation.
Students will receive a grading rubric for each project.
