QCHS Health Education 2 Unit # 1 Adult and World Health Concerns Adult and World Health Concerns Unit Description: In this unit students will investigate topics and issues that impact the health status of adults in preparation for a lifetime of positive health. A greater understanding of world heath issues will be studied to expose students to global healthcare issues and needs. The students will be provided with an opportunity to explore the impact of governmental, political, geographical, cultural and socioeconomic status upon the health of the individual and society. Current and future advancements in health and healthcare will also be examined. Essential Questions: 1. What are the causes and nature of adult death locally, nationally and globally and how can these factors be reduced? 2. What are the factors that influence health status within a community? 3. How does an individual’s health literacy and access to healthcare impact personal health status? 4. What factors influence an individual’s access to healthcare and insurance at the national and global level? 5. How does governmental policy and politics impact personal health and the health of a society? 6. How do advancements in research, technology and healthcare impact the current status and future of health? Assessment for Unit: Unit Common Assessment – PSSA Style multiple choice test, including a reading and/or writing prompt. (50%) Differentiated Performance Assessments (50%) Choose one of the following projects to complete based upon interest, abilities/skill development and learning style. The project should provide an opportunity for deeper exploration of an issue. Projects must be clearly related to the unit content and essential questions.
