JOB DESCRIPTION STRATEGY CONSULTANT – FOOD ___________________________________________________________________ JOB TITLE: STRATEGY CONSULTANT – CANADEAN FOOD REPORTING TO: Director of Consulting DEPARTMENT HEAD: CEO, Canadean Responsibilities: 1. To provide bespoke strategic consulting solutions for the food industry, leveraging Canadean’s syndicated databases on FMCG and supplier industries (including packaging), with responsibility for selling in to clients, overall project management and delivery of solutions. This will be done with support of Canadean’s project management, research & analyst teams. Typical clients are strategy and planning departments or marketing departments in PepsiCo, Danone, Unilever, Nestle, Mondelez, etc. 2. To act as industry thought leader for Food at Canadean, including speaking at conferences, having input into PR, and helping to shape product development. Key requirements are: To build strong client relationships in the Food sector for Canadean To lead the core consulting work, including client pitches, closing deals, taking analysis through to strategic interpretation and conclusions, and presenting final output to the client To be responsible for consulting business development, attending client meetings with or without the sales team as appropriate, and assessing potential new sales targets Food is a key development market for Canadean, and this role requires entrepreneurial drive and initiative, in order to build up a new client base to add to our portfolio of clients that regularly renew. Specifically: 1. To take responsibility for a consulting revenue target, ensuring that there is an ongoing healthy pipeline of opportunities being worked on, and deals closed. This will involve opportunity mapping by client, work on client pitches, producing proposals, and closing client deals for custom work. This will be done in conjunction with the sales team as appropriate, whether selling in single client projects or syndicated databases as part of a solution. 2. To ensure that each consulting project proposal meets given profitability measures, and is scoped and costed as accurately as possible, working with the projects team 4. On any specific project, to work with the Project Manager to ensure that it is delivered on time and on budget, and to manage any additions to scope to ensure that budgets and timelines are adjusted as necessary 5. To undertake core consulting work, taking analysis through to strategic interpretation and conclusions, working with the Project Manager and/or Analyst(s), and directing the scope of the analysis as appropriate 6. To build strong client relationships and manage key consulting clients on a day to day basis as appropriate to the current project(s), in conjunction with the Project Manager 7. To ensure all final output being delivered to a client meets quality standards as set, in terms of data accuracy, analytical content and conclusions, as well as in terms of presentation 8. To work on strategic input for ongoing key account work, including presentations and client workshops 9. To provide guidance to other members of the projects and analyst teams on analysis and strategic thinking, taking a leading role on business and market insight 10. To look proactively and pursue opportunities to sell existing solutions across other accounts or to new clients SKILLS REQUIRED: A can-do attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit – ability to drive through new initiatives and take the commercial lead Experience of building contacts and relationships with key clients; proven client management and presentation skills Working knowledge of strategic planning processes and market insights within key clients. IDEAL BACKGROUND: Minimum 2:1 degree in either a related discipline, an MBA or MSc is an advantage but not essential; The ideal candidate will have a background in corporate strategy within the FMCG industry; or Big 5 consulting company ideally having consulted to, or worked across, multiple industries. Demonstrable experience of project management, ideally including virtual teams Experience of manipulating and interpreting large volumes of data in Excel and database formats Knowledge of different research and analytical/statistical methodologies gained either through agency, consultancy or client-side experience, would be beneficial Based in our Head Office in Basingstoke, UK.
