Absence:
You have the number of days absent to make up work. While you are absent, make a plan to complete work.
Test or quiz will be in the Test Center.
Each student has a homework buddy to record assignments. Assignments are also available on your teacher’s web page. It is your responsibility to obtain notes and information missed during absence.
If you know you will be absent due to field trip, appt., vacation, etc., inform your teacher and obtain the assignments in advance or check the web page and come to class prepared.
Grading:
Grades are recorded in the gradebook by points. There are 5 different categories.
The school grading policy is followed: A-90, B-80, C-70, D-60. NO ROUNDING.
Points will be earned by: tests/quizzes, speaking assessments, writing assessments, listening assessments, graded assignments.
Homework is to be completed daily in order to participate daily. Preparation is the key to success.
A portion (20 points/9 weeks) of your grade will be calculated from “class effort,” i.e. what you do to move yourself and the class forward. Speaking/Using Spanish will positively be reflected in your score. This includes, but is not limited to: preparation, participation, effort, speaking in Spanish (correctly or incorrectly), and positive contributions in class. It doesn’t matter if your spoken Spanish is correct or incorrect. It doesn’t
matter if your answer in Spanish is correct or incorrect. YOU WILL ALWAYS EARN CLASS PARTICIPATION
POINTS FOR USING SPANISH! Every day, I will use the seating chart to mark individual class participation in
Spanish, to keep track of your daily effort in class and your behavior. This grade will be in the category of
“other” at the end of the 9 weeks. Excessive use of English in class will lower this grade as well as inappropriate behavior.
Tips for Success:
Speak in Spanish! You are expected to carry out routine classroom activities in Spanish.
(¿Puedo ir a la fuente de agua? ¿Puedo hablar en inglés? ¡Ayúdame! Puedo ayudarte.)
Practice your Spanish as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes!
Come to class prepared and ask questions. Don’t be shy!
Demonstrate respect for all others in the class and for me as your teacher.
The Foreign Language Study Center is very helpful. The Foreign Language Study Center is open almost all periods of the day. Take advantage of this useful place! Lots of help is available.
Rules specific to Señora Zito’s class:
Please do not touch anything that does not belong to you unless you are invited to do so. This includes ítems on my desk and other desks in the classroom.
Entering and leaving the classroom. Students must have a pass to enter late. Be in your assigned seat, ready to work, when the bell rings. Students are not permitted to leave during class for anything except an emergency. Students are to stay seated until the dismissal bell rings. No hanging out at the door!
I prefer that you do not chew gum in my classroom. There is to be no food or drink in the classroom unless part of the classroom activity. I do permit you to drink bottled water but be careful not to disrupt class or create a mess.
A detention will be issued for inappropriate or disruptive behavior. Parents will be contacted and I will document all infractions to this policy.
Cheating of any kind (quizzes, tests, homework, classroom tasks…) will result in a 0 and your parents will be contacted.
My lesson plans will be posted weekly on the Solon Schools Web Site. Please use these to help you to be prepared and ready to participate fully each and every day.
I will enforce all policies stated and the policies of Solon High School. I know you will do the same.
Every Monday, “Charlemos” will be our first activity of the week. This is a chance for you to “chat” using
Spanish, about your past weekend or upcoming week. You will love this!
When participating in class activities at the board, students will remain in their seats and quiet until all numbers are given out for that activity.
Extra Credit is rare. Not a component of my grading.
Have a wonderful year and experience in Spanish. Make every moment count. This school year and always, be your best and do your very best! Success will be the final product! I expect your best work and effort and I will give you my very best day after day!
