Required
I.
Introduction
A. Attention-Getter – OMG theres a new rule! We are uniform free! Isn’t that exciting! I wish
(sarcasm)
B. Transition - Link to Thesis – Uniforms are horrible.
C. Thesis Statement – In my opinion I think school uniforms should not be required
D. Preview of Points- Uniforms should not be require because they don’t allow freedom of speech,
theyre super expensive, and uncomfortable.
E. Transition: Signpost – to begin, uniforms do not allow freedom of speech
II.
Body
A. Main Point 1 – Uniforms do not allow freedom of speech.
a. Subpoint 1- freedom of speech doesn’t include only verbal communication but also
inverbal.
1. Testimony-“ Freedom of Speech includes non-speech also. What someone wears and
how they behave is considered "freedom of expression" and is a protected right…”
(amendment 1 “press”)
b. Subpoint 2- By not letting us dress freely, it takes away our
individuality. -“Uniforms teach children that in order to get along
everyone must conform to the same standards. “ (arguments about
uniforms)
1. Comparison- If children start to believe this so called statement than they are teaching
children that being the same is okay; and that is not true.
c. Transition: Review-Preview- Secondly
B. Main Point 2 – School uniforms are way overpriced
a. Subpoint 1- The prices of school uniforms that are probably only
going to last a year are outrageous
1. ExampleFor example when kids have to wear uniforms it’s not only a disappointment to them but also
to the parents because how expensive buying uniforms are. Uniform tops cost around
$26.99, and uniform shorts cost $34.99 to $44.99 thus calculated; the prices for a single shirt
and bottoms cost somewhere around $65! Reminder that’s just for one set.
b. Subpoint 2- Plus if you get them stained/dirty or the uniforms
become “unprofessional” like rips, too small, etc for parents
especially theyre the ones who have to buy them
1. Statistic - on an online site “According to a Guardian Poll asking parents what they thought
about the cost of school uniforms, 77 per cent of voters believed they were paying too much”
(uniforms too expensive)
c. Transition: Futhermore
C. Main Point 3 – I believe school uniforms are uncomfortable
a. Subpoint 1- “A child who is focusing on how uncomfortable or
unstylish a school uniform is will not perform as well in school as
kids who are happy and comfortable with what they are wearing.”
(pros and cons of school uniforms for kids)
1. Narrative- To me they are uncomfortable because sometimes our Kamehameha school shorts
are either one size to small or one size to big. They never fit properly making them not comfortable.
b. Subpoint 2- Also when we wear our uniforms it makes us become
hot; which is very uncomfortable because all you think about is how
sweaty you are, and especially if someone next to you who is sweaty
as well.
1. Fact –By coming sweaty it can lead to body odor; Body Odor: the smell of the human
body, especially when unpleasant. By smelling unpleasant it can be very distracting for the
people around you, 74% of you in this room agreed.
c. Transition: and to sum it up
III.
Conclusion
A. Restate Thesis – In my opinion I think school uniforms should not be required
B. Review of Points - Uniforms should not be require because they don’t allow freedom of
speech, theyre super expensive, and uncomfortable
C. Closing Statement – Does pizza need pepperoni to taste goodi?
