Designing Assessment Tasks NTI March 2015 Learning Target • I can create assessment tasks that align with focused sets of targets. This is the next step in the process after bundling standards, identifying a compelling topic and choosing a complex text. We will engage in one of the ways that the curriculum writers engaged with when designing assessments but that there may be other, jus as effective methods for designing assessments. 2 Building Background • Form a triad. • Locate the Designing Assessments Video Notecatcher in your notebooks, pp.56-57. • Take a moment to scan the notecatcher. 3 Jigsaw • Member 1: Complete reflections for Key Ideas #1 and #2 • Member 2: Complete reflections for Key Ideas #3 and #4 • Member 3: Complete reflections for Key Ideas #5 and #6 4 Video 5 Share • Share your reflections from your assigned rows of the notecatcher with your triad. • After each participant shares, the two other members of the triad should each take one minute to respond to the presenter’s thoughts. 6 Assessment Design Task Card • Regroup into teams of 4 for this next section. • Locate the Assessment Design Task Card(s), pp. 5859. • Take 2-3 minutes to read through the task card. Tag supplemental documents that you will need in your notebooks; documents located on pp. 62-80. 7 Preparing for the Task • Select the roles indicated at the top of the task card. • As you are working through the task card, the facilitators in the room will be supporting the process. If you are moving along at the suggested pace without any issues, display the green cup on top. If you are having some questions, but can continue the work, display the yellow cup on top. If they are at a complete stand still and can not continue the process, display the red cup on top. 8 Go! • Begin completing the steps on the task card. • It is important that all groups complete the process because in Session 5, we will be offering colleagues feedback about their assessment questions. 9 Synthesis • Locate the Assessment Design Reflection document, p. 81. • Take a few minutes to quietly reflect and synthesize your learning. 10
