About the role
This placement provides an opportunity for you to gain an insight into the fast moving world of
M&A and Private Equity. Working alongside a small team of professionals you will have the
opportunity to contribute to all stages of a transaction, from deal origination and preparing the
sale document through to purchaser research and ultimately completion. You will work with a
variety of businesses and entrepreneurs from a broad range of industries and sectors, as well as
liaising with professionals from other fields, such as private equity, law and banking. You will
see what makes a business a successful, attractive opportunity and learn about possible funding
options for companies looking to grow.
You will also become involved in regional and national marketing activities in order to raise the
profile of our team in the market and assist with deal origination.
This placement is a real job - you will be doing real work on real deals in a dynamic and fast
paced environment. The opportunity to progress is significant: Placement students regularly
return for periods over the summer holidays and two have now taken up full time employment
in the team. We are looking for candidates with a ‘can-do’ attitude who are prepared to work
hard and take on high levels of responsibility when necessary. Due to the client-facing nature of
this role, we will also be looking for someone who is well presented and able to deal with a
range of people in a confident and professional manner.
The main responsibilities of this role include:






Research and analysis of companies, industries and trends;
Understand and communicate key risks and growth areas of companies and industries;
Attend meetings with contracted and potential clients, venture capitalists, bankers, private
equity firms and other relevant parties;
Attend Baker Tilly networking events;
National and regional marketing development; and
Support branding and PR.
About you
The requirements for individuals wishing to apply for this role include:









Achieved a B in GCSE Maths and English Language (or equivalents)
Achieved at least 280 UCAS points excluding general studies (or equivalents)
Time management and organisational skills;
Ability to work well in a team;
Business awareness and commercial acumen;
Confidence and good personal presentation;
Good communication skills – ability to summarise concisely and clearly;
Computer literacy – competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint essential; and
Interest in all areas of Corporate Finance.
