GATSBY JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT
For each of the 7 out of 9 chapters you will be expected to write the following Gatsby Journals. You will
be responsible for turning them in at the end of each chapter.
Each entry needs an original title name along with the chapter number and must be organized in this
order with headings.
*Each chapter must be typed, double-spaced, any 12 pt. Font.

SUMMARY: Write a 4-5 sentence chapter summary in your OWN words! If you copy and paste
from any internet site, I will have to give you a zero and referral for plagiarism.
•
CHARACTERIZATION: Each chapter pick a different character to focus on.
•
Name the character.
•
Choose a quote that you think best represents the character with citation.
•
Describe one of his/her best and worst qualities in the referenced chapter
•
In a 4-5 sentence paragraph describe the character's role in the chosen chapter.
•
MEANINGFUL QUOTE: From each chapter choose one meaningful quote, and then describe its
significance in the novel. (Include citation)
•
SYMBOLS: For each chapter, note at least two sightings of one or more of the following symbols:

•
Gatsby's career/Nick's career
•
Gatsby's cars/clothes
Each entry is worth 10 points if all components are present and effort is shown. Collectively this will
accumulate to 70 points. You can use 1 day late passes but no homework passes on these.
