Text: 81010 Message: @97394
Dear Lamar 8th Graders and Parents,
I am so excited to be teaching you this year! We will learn all
about United States history from early exploration through
Reconstruction. There will only be five major dates I want you to
remember, but most importantly I want you to discover how
America came to be and why, how we can connect it to today’s
history, and be the best citizens we can be.

U.S. HISTORY GRADING POLICY
 40% - Minor Grades (Classwork, homework, quizzes,
participation)
 60% - Major Grades (Tests, projects)
 Late work – 1 day late = 30 points off, 2 days late = 50 points
off, 3 days late is a zero.
You will have an opportunity to retake a test within three days if
you make below a 70. In order to retake a test, you must be
prepared to retake a test. Please do not fail a test and come in for
advisory or morning tutorials and have not prepared (tutorials,
extra study material from me, etc.) I will reteach any material you
are confused about. Come see me!
ABSENCES
I understand there are certain instances when you cannot make it
to school, but please do your best to be at school everyday. We miss
you when you’re gone!
ALL classwork information is posted on the class website, however
YOU are responsible for checking in with me after an absence. You
will be held accountable for any missed notes, quizzes, or tests that
we did in class that day. Use morning tutorials and advisory for
checking in and communicating with me.
DISCIPLINE & EXPECTATIONS
Lamar Middle School teachers use a collaborative behavior management
plan to foster a safe and successful learning environment. This plan
includes a team approach, teaching expectations across all classes, tiered
consequences for multiple behavior infractions, recognition and rewards for
appropriate behavior and demonstrating good citizenship.
 I expect all students to have their iPad and earbuds daily.
 Students will NOT need their cell phone in class. It should be
left in their locker. If parents need to get in touch with their
child, they may contact the front office. We have wonderful
student office aides who relay messages in a prompt manner
every period.
 Check my website/calendar often. Bookmark it or add it to
your iPad home screen for easy access.
TUTORING
 I am available every morning from 8:15 – 8:40.
CONTACT
 My website and calendar information is on the Lamar website
and on my email signature.
 Email me anytime at carpenter@lisd.net. This is the easiest
way to get a hold of me.
 Call me anytime at 972-350-2033 or leave your number and I will
get back to you as soon as I can.
