Article 1: UC Cheerleading
The name of the organization shall be University of Calgary Cheerleading , here in after referred to as
UCC
Article 2: Mission
The club exists to provide a cheerleading and dance group on the University of Calgary campus. The
purpose of the club is to bring people with interests in cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, sports and
athletics together. The club provides an excellent way to get involved on campus and promotes
teamwork, physical fitness, positive attitude and collegiality. As well as getting students involved, the
club aims to promote school pride and school spirit.
Article 3: Membership
Membership to this club is open to any undergraduate and graduate student of the University of
Calgary, U of C Alumni and U of C Campus Recreation members. A general membership will consist of
our “Red Shirts” (those who are still in training) and our “Student Cheer Zone” (those who cheer with us
during the games). This general membership is open to everyone who pays the membership fee. Anyone
can join general membership throughout the year. Being a part of the Cheer Team membership, which is
the membership that allows you to perform, is based on try-outs and payment of membership fees. A
valid membership shall be recognized for the term October 4th to April 30th. Membership fees, which
include cheerleading team apparel and studio bookings, will vary year to year. However, the fees will not
be less than $10 or more than $230 for the year. Membership fees will be collected by the financial
operator or the president. Cheer team fees are non-refundable.
At all times, UC Cheerleading will have a minimum of 20 members, 2/3 of which are undergraduate
students.
Article 4: Students’ Union
UCC acknowledges and will abide by the Students’ Union By-laws and Policies unless otherwise
approved by the Club Committee. We are aware that UC CHEERLEADING will no longer remain a
Students’ Union club if a Policy or By-law is contravened without Club Committee ratification.
Article 5: Executive Positions and Responsibilities
All executive members are required to attend all meetings that the clubs holds. In addition, the
Executives shall adhere to the UCC constitution and utilize it for reference of operational decisions. The
president, with assistance from the Executives shall be responsible for submitting the Annual Report to
the Students’ Union by the due date of each year.

 Makes final decisions on the selection of the team
 Hold monthly meetings for all executives for review goals and accomplishments
 Approve and order all uniforms and equipment needed
 Secure practice, performance, meeting and club space





Formulate all required club contracts (waivers, exc.)
Communicate the code of conduct, behavior and image and team policies.
Any necessary disciplinary actions in line with the University of Calgary Student Code of Conduct
will be forwarded to the Vice Provost Student Code of Conduct Office
Creates and designs all choreography for the team’s performances
Work with the president to organize and plan annual try-outs
Co-sign and collaborate risk and liability forms
Develop the team’s skill level
Create detailed lesson plans for weekly practices
Financial Operations
 Responsible for the organization of finances (opening bank account)
 Keep record of all transactions
 Responsible for all deposits and withdrawals from the team bank account
 Approves finance requests
 Collects fee’s from other members of the team
 Researching for available funding or sponsorships
Events Manager and Communication
 Prepare annual try-out advisements
 Organize for clubs week
 Create, update and control all social media
 Communicate with all external media
 Approve all submissions to media
 Act as Dino’s Athletics liaison ( collaboration with the president)
 Communicate information to team members
 Develop administrative feedback forms
 Event management and organization
 Responsible for taking minutes during all club meetings
Article 6: Executive Terms of Office
The term of office for Executive positions shall commence on August 1st and end on April 30th. For the
start-up year, the 1st term will start early to account for club establishment starting halfway through the
academic year and be considered January 1st 2012 and end July 31st, 2013. The president shall hold
office for first term (example: August 1st till April 30th) or until they resign and/or pass on their position
to another club executive. In the inaugural year, the president is the UCC club founder and the
executives are appointed by that individual. For the following years, Elections will be held and
executives will be voted in to office by the other club members.
Article 7: Executive Platforms
Running for club vice executive positions; any member can present a platform. The platform of a new
club executive must take place no later than March 1st of each year to ensure a smooth transition from
old executive to new executive. Running for executive positions will take place during the end of March
or beginning of April each year. If members do not voluntarily run for positions, the current president
will nominate two platforms for each executive position.
Running for president and holding significant administrative, managerial and workload responsibilities
and duties is two-tiered by priority rating:
1. Current executive member (or re-elect current president)
2. Current cheer team member (if no current executive wants to run for president, running opens to all
members)
Elections and voting will be held for the incoming club president and club executives will occur during
the beginning of April each year.
Article 8: Transition of the Executive
From the end of the second week of April until the first day of May, when the new Executive will assume
office, it is the responsibility of the departing Executive to orient the newly elected executive officers to
their jobs. This includes teaching the incoming executive about club and Students’ Union policies and
procedures, transitioning custodianship of club records and materials (including office and mailbox keys,
locker combinations and all passwords to all club accounts), and preparing the new Executive to be
effective in their roles for the next year's work.
It is the responsibility of the President to ensure that all club requirements to the Students’ Union,
including submission of a complete annual report and the removal of all club records and materials from
the club office and locker, have been fulfilled before the incoming Executive assumes office.
It is the responsibility of the President and the financial operator to bring all accounts up to date to the
end of the fiscal year, and to prepare any required financial statements of the club.
It is the responsibility of the incoming Executives for all club requirements to the Students’ Union
commencing with the first day of May.
Article 9: Meetings

The clubs Executives meet monthly.

The club Executive must attend all meetings.

The President may call an Executive meeting at any time, on at least 48 hours’ notice.
Article 10: Amendments
This constitution shall comprise the operating basis of UCC.
All amendments to this document must be ratified by a majority of the executives.
A copy of the amended constitution must be submitted to the Students’ Union within two weeks of
ratification.
