PERFORMANCE PLANNING AND REVIEW Faculty Responsibilities in Support of SAIT’s Strategic Plan Academic Excellence Demonstrate competency in your content area, that is current and relevant to professional practice Manage the classroom to ensure a positive learning environment Improve curriculum on a continual basis Update course outlines (as required) Develop and use lesson plans that align with course outlines and/or independent learning modules (ILM’s) Develop and use assessment and evaluation tools that align with course outcomes Update, maintain and make course materials available Use instructional time effectively Model professionalism in conduct, attitude, and appearance Provide formative feedback, marks and grades in a timely manner Ensure learners are provided with the approved course outline during the first week of the course Seek learner feedback and make appropriate adjustments Use a variety of instructional techniques and technologies to enhance the delivery of curriculum Use SIR results to review student feedback and regularly evaluate methods to improve the student experience in the classroom or laboratory. Develop instructional skills on a continual basis Coordinate with other instructors teaching the same course to ensure consistency of delivery and assessment Learner Experience Be knowledgeable of and inform learners of available support Help learners to become capable and confident through the development of their knowledge, skills and attitudes Identify at-risk learners (where possible), inform your Academic Chair, and initiate appropriate action Be available for learner consultation, communicate availability and respond to communication in a timely manner Mentor and advise learners Participate in learner recruitment and selection processes (as required) Promote learning options to potential learners (as required) Seek opportunities to integrate learners with industry Support initiatives and activities intended to engage and recognize learners Approved by Deans’ Council April 23, 2008 Revised by VP Academic March 2014 Stakeholder/Market Focus Maintain awareness of industry trends, issues and opportunities Participate in program advisory committee activities (as required) Engage with key stakeholders (e.g. students, graduates, industry representatives, program advisory committee members) as and when appropriate Identify and advise your Academic Chair with respect to market changes that affect your program Support positive internal and external communication with stakeholders (e.g. students, graduates, industry representatives, program advisory committee members) Community Connection Maintain an effective relationship with the SAIT community, industry and the community at large Infrastructure Management Assist in the identification of relevant budget, facilities and capital inventory requirements Ensure the classroom*,facilities and equipment are left in a good state for the next class Report maintenance requirements of classroom equipment and facilities People and Culture Be a positive and active participant Build positive working relationships through effective communication Commit to lifelong learning through ongoing professional development Participate in professional development as per your individual performance plan Participate in the recruitment and mentoring of new staff (as required) Respond to administrative requests in a professional and timely manner Ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff Other Use SAIT resources in an economical manner Other duties as assigned by your Academic Chair, Associate Dean and/or Dean Adhere to SAIT policies and procedures Use instructional and non-instructional time effectively classrooms include lab, shops, etc. Approved by Deans’ Council April 23, 2008 Revised by VP Academic March 2014
