Team Seven Cents Team Charter Motto: “If it doesn’t make dollars, IT DOESN’T MAKE CENTS” Mission Statement “To provide informative, concise, and project relevant work that exceeds course requirements by way of working together while accomplishing our individual and team goals.” Goals Team Goals: Simply passing group assignments and projects would be an unsatisfactory standard. This group hopes to exceed expectations by achieving higher than 85% in all projects through the use of unique ideas that take creativity to a higher level and concepts learned in organizational behaviour. Being prepared is a fundamental factor to success. Finishing projects prior to due dates, members finishing all readings and complete their share of workload will help ensure this level of success is met. Getting the group to reach an optimal performance level through strong team development. Learning how to function better as a team is an important aspect of these group activities by dividing the work load evenly among team members and actively embracing different team roles. By establishing effective norms, the team can hope to accomplish success. We will resolve conflicts effectively by listening to each individual's point of view and calmly working through any difficulties there may be. This mannerism will help the team find a resolution that’s best suited for the team, while still recognizing each individual’s point of view and find a common ground. In the process to achieve my goal I will motivate and support team members to succeed. Also, I will develop my interpersonal communication skills by working with the group.” Jason: “My personal goal is to learn how to better utilize social media, among a variety of other computer programs and technologies, to assist myself in doing a better job of distributing vital information to, and at the same time receiving it from, my fellow team members in an effective manner. There will definitely be a strong emphasis on eventually being able to do it all myself.” Yulia: “My personal goal is to learn how to work with people with different culture” Roles Leader (Miguel) Initiates group discussion by introducing topics that need to be covered. Manages the Facebook group; reminding the team of meetings and responsibilities. Creates projects paths for the team to follow and build upon. Ensures all members are satisfied with team operation Any issues with the team are dealt with by the leader. Facilitator (Cam) Helps the group to understand common objectives. Works to achieve a consensus on any disagreements. Remain neutral in any conflict that exists within the group. Distinguish levels of urgency of group tasks. Enable efficiency through promotion of synergy. Summarizer / Scribe (Fiona) Record every participant's comments in a format which the team can easily understand (so the group can reflect the key points at any time). Pull together ideas, concepts, and group decisions to help the group identify where it is in its thinking while trying to prevent ideas from getting lost. The key skills for the recorder are a clear and concise writing style and an ability to organize information for easy access. Motivator (Paula) Expected to maintain a positive attitude (bringing that attitude and enthusiasm to group meetings). Ensure workload is divided in a way which accommodates to individual interests and allows team members to strengthen their abilities with the help of other members. Motivate team "togetherness" and ensure everyone is actively participating in a positive way. Help team members get support on more difficult tasks (finding the resources and tools to help make the team member successful and fully reach their goals within the group). Timekeeper (Kasun) At the beginning of the meeting, divide the time for each task that is going to be discussed. Keep the team meeting on track. Remind the team members if the team spends too much time on a specific topic, so as to maximize the use of time in a meeting. Editor / Organizer (Jason) One of the primary tasks of the editor / organizer is to proof-read the written work of every team member—thus ensuring that it is of high quality, and free from any grammar or spelling errors. This is especially true when it comes time to editing the final draft / product of major assignments and projects. Another key task is to tweak or fine-tune the work done by team members through making minor adjustments. One more vital task is to make complete changes to the work of team members—that is, if it is absolutely necessary or required, in the sense that if the benefits would is indeed outweigh the risks associated with the changes. Take the work contributed by every team member, put it all together, and then make it flow. Harmonizer (Yulia) Maintains the peace Reduces tension through humour and by reconciling differences between members. Help the group reach a consensus so that an impasse such as we have here can be avoided. Defuse the situation during the early stages. Challenges: Role rotation -These roles are not fixed. Each project we will assign different roles based on individual’s personal goals. An individual can’t choose a role twice to allow other team members to try other roles. Control - We as a team will have discussions and make sure everyone gets their thoughts out. If someone is too dictatorial we will take appropriate action by having a meeting to discuss this problem if it ever occurs. Processes Team Meetings: Attendance is MANDATORY for all group meetings. Under the circumstance that a group member is unable to attend, they must provide 24 hour notice to team members. The group member should complete their assigned task before the missed group meeting, and deliver that work to another member, so it can be presented regardless of their absence. Team members should always be prepared for class and team meetings. They must be familiar with the concepts being discussed and the required material. This includes reading current textbook chapters, discussion notes, and the project path. Communication: While working on a project, team members should be available for contact as well as check the Facebook page for Group 1 in Set 1C every 24 hours for updates on the project. Any discrepancies, project ideas or updates on project or member status should be communicated as soon as possible, either through text or the Facebook page. This will keep the team up to date and able to resolve issues and incorporate ideas quickly and efficiently. Decision Making: In regards to decision making, if any conflicts arise, each team member should respectfully listen to each individual’s position. Evaluating each individual’s key points will help us come to a fair resolution/compromise. Everyone will be heard and a decision will be made. We will do our best to satisfy everyone. Distribution of tasks: All work will be distributed equally among group members. The members will assist any individual who may be struggling to complete or understand the work assigned. Team members should help others address any weaknesses throughout each project and promote improvement of these skills such as public speaking or using proper essay format. In order to prevent extroverts from dominating team meetings, introverts are encouraged to speak first. Extroverts should encourage full participation of each member by asking for any opinions or insights into the current discussion directly. Scheduling and Establishing milestones and deadlines: Team members are expected to work together in a timely fashion and complete projects a week before the assignment or presentation is due. This will allow time for finetuning the work, preparing presentations, and addressing any last minute issues that may arise. Team members should encourage success in reaching individual and team goals by recognizing hard work. When an individual accomplishes a goal, the team will call attention to this accomplishment. The team will verbally recognize the effort a member has put into propagating the success of the team and their improved personal skills. Progressive corrective disciplinary process: The four steps are: 1. Verbal reminder to the individual of team charter requirements, and a clear statement of which requirement is not being met. 2. Written notice to the individual, stating the specific charter requirement that is not being met, with a copy emailed to your ORGB instructor and to other appropriate instructor(s). 3. Mandatory meeting and “Last chance agreement.” All team members must meet with the lab instructor, and a written last change agreement shall be prepared. The agreement shall state the specific requirements that must be met by team member. Copies of the last chance agreement shall be provided to the appropriate instructor(s). 4. Written recommendation for dismissal of the team member if the last chance agreement has not been adhered to.
