

Procedure: Watch and take notes over videos about conducting research, working in groups, and presenting
information.

Daily Work: Check Weekly Words 6: Synthesize It!
Introduction: Pass out Sentence Combining & Using Comma Handout: Students will read steps and hints for
correctly combing sentences and adding commas when proofreading sentences. Students will complete one
example with the teacher.
Procedure: Students will independently complete practice exercises for combining sentences and adding commas.
The teacher will go over correct responses with the students.
Assessment: Students will complete a TCAP practice test that focuses on combing sentences and using commas.

Day Eighteen: Giver Research

Assessment: Research Video Assessment
Introduction: Pass out Narrative Handout & Rubric: Define narrative and discuss attributes of narrative writing
such as point of view, dialogue, internal monologue, etc.
Procedure: Students will practice identifying the type of writing in examples. Discuss correct responses.
Assessment: Students will write a one page narrative about a member of The Community not featured in The
Giver.
