Name: _________________________________ Period: ______ CELL ANALOGY PROJECT – DUE Friday 1/8/16 Introduction Cells need to carry on the same basic functions as we do to sustain life; the difference is cells do this with much smaller parts. These smaller structures that allow the cell to function are called organelles – “tiny organs.” Also plant and animal cells have some similar parts and some parts that are not similar. It’s only common sense that if you are able to relate things you learned in class to everyday things, you’ll remember it better. It’s not every day that you and your friends sit around at Tim Horton’s discussing the rough endoplasmic reticulum. However, you probably do discuss things like cars, your homes, your school, and places to visit, etc… Therefore, your task in this assignment is to relate the different cell organelles to an everyday situation or thing using an analogy. An analogy is a comparison of two things. Your Task You will come up with an analogy for the cell of your choice and its organelles. Your analogy will be represented in the form of a poster that represents a cell and its organelles. You should compare roles of 8-10 organelles to a part of the analogy. You will complete the following: Brainstorming Chart – Day 1 Drawing of your analogy (City, Town, School, Government Building, etc.) on large construction paper – your drawing should include COLOR and CREATIVITY!! Comparison chart – comparing the inter-workings of your chosen analogy to the organelles in a cell. Example: o Nucleus is represented by the White House in Washington D.C. because it is the control center of that city. Brainstorming: Places that I like to go…. Structures located at those places…. Examples of the organelles that those structures compare to…. Reasons why those structures compare to organelles…. Structure Organelle it is similar to Why the structure is similar to that organelle Final Comparison Chart (To be glued or stapled to the back of your poster) This chart needs to be NEAT and ORGANIZED. Feel free to use color or drawings anywhere throughout. Structure Organelle WHY did you come up with this analogy?
