The Voice of Nursing Leadership”

2015 Executive Director Annual Report

Highlights

Indiana Hospital Association :

The incorporation of IONE into the work of IHA expanded in 2015 with increased involvement in advocacy and government relations. IHA Vice President of Government Relations, Brian Tabor and

Linda Minton, Chairman of the IONE Legislative Committee, drafted the IONE letter sent to legislators supporting the, “Improving Veterans Access to Care Act of 2015”.

The bill H. R. 1247, allows

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN’s) who work in Veterans Health Administration (VHA) facilities “full practice authority”. Linda and I, at the invitation of IHA, attended the educational session at the statehouse hosted by Representative Edward Clere for the Health Policy Committee on advanced practice nursing.

Participation in IHA staff meetings, IHA Board meetings and the Quality Council meetings has afforded

IONE the opportunity to be included at the table to answer questions and share information.

Representation of IONE:

Representing IONE at numerous meetings and educational offerings across the state is a key responsibility of the Executive Director. I enjoy traveling the state and meeting our District members while sharing information about upcoming educational offerings and seeking suggestions for future programs. I have traveled 1,072 miles to 6 districts so far this year. There have been an increasing number of educational and organizational meetings that have requested the presence of IONE. I have presented information about IONE at several hospitals, schools of nursing and IHA meetings.

Nursing Leadership Education:

IONE sponsored the AONE “Certificate Program in Health Care Finance”. The course was sold out with

45 participants being IONE members. The Certified Nurse Manager Leader conference is occurring in conjunction with the Fall Conference. These two programs have been brought to Indiana to increase the number of affordable leadership education programs available to IONE members at a reduced cost.

IONE supported ISNA’s annual membership meeting by sponsoring Pam Hunt to speak on staffing from a nursing leadership perspective. IONE also sponsored the Indiana Center for Nursing summit earlier this month as an educational activity.

IONE Public Relations & Webpage:

The 2014 Annual Report was mailed to all members for the first time in many years. The webpage and social media continues to be a key responsibility of the Executive Director and affords IONE the opportunity to be instantly available via the “question to the webmaster” link. For the first time, IONE has placed a print ad in the ISNA Foundation newsletter that reaches every licensed RN in Indiana. In

2016, all of the IONE documents that are in print will be updated due to the move of IHA to new offices. The timing has afforded IONE the opportunity to update the organizations logo.

Thank you:

It has been an honor to represent IONE this year. I want to thank our President, Lynn Turner and the

Board for their commitment and dedication to the mission and vision of IONE.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mary Browning DNP, MS, RN

Executive Director IONE
