This is a very fast paced class where there will be no time to waste. Do your best on the quiz over the homework. These quizzes will be selected problems directly from the homework assignments. Participate in class activities and notes. Ask questions when you get confused. Work on your homework every time and check your answers to make sure you are doing the work correctly. Come in for help when you need it. Don’t wait until the morning before the test. Supplies A place to keep your passed back work and notes. A binder is best. A spiral to write your notes in. Notebook and graph paper Graphing Calculator (TI-83+ or TI-84+) Pencils Red Pens Four AAA batteries 1 box of Kleenex Graphing Calculator – You will have a graphing calculator to use during class. You will have homework assignments that require the use of a graphing calculator. I strongly recommend purchasing a graphing calculator if you do not already have one at home. Please put your name on your calculator if you bring it to school. Tutorials – I am available before school starting at 8:10 Monday – Friday and after school until at least 4:10 Monday – Thursday. There will be times when I am not available for tutorials. During these times, please see Mr. Elkins or Mrs. Willman on the math hallway. They have experience in teaching this course and can help you. Grading Daily Work (30%) Homework – You will get an assignment every night. The assignments will also be posted to the math department website. Homework Quizzes – each quiz is timed. The best way to guarantee that you finish your quiz on time is to prepare by doing the homework ahead of time. I will drop the lowest grade each grading period. Tests (70%) There will be at least three tests each nine weeks. All tests are timed to 90 minutes. There will be calculator and noncalculator parts to the tests. If you fail a test, you are only allowed to retest once per 9 weeks grading period to earn up to a 70. Great ways to study for your unit tests are to do the review assignment, look over all graded homework quizzes, and look at your notes and classroom activities. Absences If you get behind in this class due to absences, it will be difficult to understand the topics being discussed upon your return. You must have good attendance. If you are going to be absent, the best thing to do is see me ahead of time to see what you are going to be missing. Also check the math department website to see the assignment you missed. You must make up any missing quiz within 4 calendar days or the grade will permanently become a 0. If you miss a test, you will be required to make up the test the next class period. Make sure you are prepared. I will do my best to make you successful this year and I expect you do your best as well!
