UK has conferences for incoming freshmen, 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. transfer and readmitted students. Day one is filled with information sessions. OSA conducted parent sessions on day one of the conferences to talk about expectations for students in the college as well as admissions criteria. On day two, OSA advisors met with incoming students in our selected majors. Over the course of the summer, OSA advised 98 students for enrollment in fall 2012: a. 2 Medical Laboratory Science b. Pre-Clinical Leadership and Management c. 23 Pre-Communication Disorders d. 72 Pre-Medical Laboratory Sciences During the advising session, OSA provides an overview the college, explain the UK Core, and the registration process before students go to the computer lab and register themselves. Human Health Sciences Information Sessions During the summer advising conferences, OSA conducted a day one information session for students and parents interested in applying for the new major. The 12 sessions were attended by 62 students and over 100 parents and guests. Human Health Sciences Recruitment On May 8, 2012, the UK Board of Trustees approved the new undergraduate major in Human Health Sciences. Our initial deadline of May 28th was overly ambitious given the limited time to reach out to incoming freshmen. In June, Dean Stewart agreed to move the priority deadline to August 1st to be able to utilize the summer to recruit incoming students during the summer conferences. In addition to the information sessions, OSA provided all incoming students with flyers in their summer advising packets. Emails were sent to prospective students in Undergraduate Studies and to those who had previous contact with the College during recruitment that met the criteria for admission. The Enrollment Management call center contacted over 300 prospective students to encourage them to apply. HHS Advisor Wayne Centers has posted ads on Facebook which reached over 2,700 incoming UK students. Dr. Bruckner posted a video on the website. As of Friday, August 9th, we have had 41 students apply to be a part of the HHS program, 26 applications have been accepted or invited to the program, and 7 applications are being reviewed. The deadline was recently extended again to August 15th to follow up with quality candidates who had yet to apply. Dean Stewart and the HHS planning committee are reviewing the application and process for the 2013 class which will be due on January 15, 2013. During the fall, information sessions will be conducted on campus to recruit currently enrolled UK students to apply to change their major. Dr. Bruckner is also working to develop a four year curriculum map. Our target is 50-75 students per incoming class. Of the students selected for entry in fall of 2012, the average ACT is 26.92 and average high school unweighted GPA is 3.67. In addition to the curricular offers, students will participate in an orientation session at the opening of term and social/cultural activities throughout the year to build a sense of community. HHS students may select one of four tracks in the major: Physical Therapy, Physician’s Assistant, Dentistry or Pharmacy. This undergraduate major will be an ideal preparation for a career in healthcare. HealthCare Residential College In partnership with the College of Nursing and Undergraduate Studies, OSA is participating in this living learning community for incoming freshmen interested in a career in healthcare. Participants reside in Holmes Hall on north campus and participate in connected courses as well as co-curricular workshops on the health professions. In addition, students will participate in service learning in partnership with residence life. This is the first year of this program and there are 32 participants (18 non-nursing students). Students will move in on August 16th for a pre-K-Week orientation. Student Ambassadors The College of Health Sciences will welcome 14 student ambassadors to campus for a retreat on August 18th and training on August 19th. The ambassadors will serve as hosts for our college meeting, important functions within the college, assist with recruiting events. If you would like to utilize our ambassadors, please contact Wayne Centers at wayne.centers@uky.edu. “See Blue” Preview Nights 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. The “See Blue” preview nights to recruit incoming students for enrollment in the fall of 2013 begin at the end of August in St. Louis, MO. College Welcome Event As part of the K-Week festivities, on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, from 1:30-3:30pm, the College will host a College Welcome for our new Pre-CD, Pre-MLS, CLM and HHS undergraduate students. This event allows us to personally welcome students to our home on campus, introduce them to the dean, faculty, some of the student ambassadors and also get to know one another. Our hope is always that this is the first step for these students to begin developing identity and connection with our college. Join us as we welcome over 100 new students this fall in all undergraduate majors! Physician Assistant Studies Admissions The admissions portal opened in April with a deadline of August 1. The new recording equipment consists of a networked desktop computer and a web camera in each examination room. The new system has a recording program so therapists can record and store sessions on a file server. If you’d like to reserve the new system, please contact Kimberly Pitman at the extension 80584. 3. Moving LinkBlue IDs of CHS Students. This past year, student email services have been moved to the Cloud using Google Apps for Education and Microsoft through Microsoft Live@edu. However, students who have access to any protected health information (PHI) files must use UK-owned email systems due to federal health privacy regulations. There were a few incidents in the past during the UK IT account audit where our students’ Exchange emails had been disabled. To prevent future mistakes and to ensure that our students’ UK Exchange emails will remain active during their course of study, it is necessary that their LinkBlue IDs be moved from the AD to the MC domain. This move will be completed by August 17, 2012, before the start of the fall 2012 semester and will affect junior, senior, and graduate students in Communication Sciences and Disorders, all Physician Assistant Studies students, and all Physical Therapy students. 4. Recording Lectures with Echo360 Echo360 is an audio, video, and screen capturing software and streaming service at UK that can be integrated with Blackboard. Room 401 and 405 CTW Building are equipped with Echo360 Capture which enables instructors to screen capture and record audio of their lectures. There are no video cameras in the rooms. Lecture capture can be pre-scheduled to begin and end automatically at set times. Recorded lectures/presentations can also be published automatically to Blackboard courses. If you need to record your lectures in one of those rooms, please submit a SysAid ticket with dates and times and a Blackboard course ID; the CHS IT will schedule the recording for you. You can also record your lectures in your office, home, and other locations using Echo360 Personal Capture, also called Echo PCAP. The Echo PCAP has been included as “standard” software installed on your office computer. Recorded presentations/lectures can also be easily published to UK Blackboard. 5. Service Requests Using SysAid To expedite your service request, please always use SysAid located and accessible on the desktop of your office computer.
