Jan. 19-Feb. 1 Teachers will be inputting course recommendations for
students. Students speak with teachers regarding placement.
Feb. 2-8 Students/Parents input course selections in Parent Portal. At this
time both students and parents will be able to review teacher
recommendations that have been previously recorded in Parent Portal. If
you do not have access to Parent Portal, please see your counselor.
Feb 10- March 9 Students meet individually with counselors during
scheduled time through English class to review, discuss and select course
requests and academic progress.
Early April Students will receive a copy of course requests in the mail to
review with parents and make changes if necessary. The final day to make
changes to course requests is…………………

Entering Course Requests
• Log in using the user ID and password provided

you by [email].
If a dialog box appears, read the instructions in
it and then click the Close button.
If there is a link, School Course Catalog, in the upper right
corner of the page, you can click the link to view all the
courses in [your district]. This catalog may contain courses
that are not available to you for any of these reasons:

The courses are not offered at the school you will be
attending next year and/or in the grade you will be in
next year.

You have not completed prerequisites for the course.

The courses are not in your academic plan.
In the dialog box that appears, click OK.
Once you have submitted your course requests you are
unable to change them. [If your parent and/or counselor
denies approval, you will again be able to change your
course requests].

complete the 11th Grade Research Paper
Course investigates through American Fiction and Non-Fiction
events that have shaped the United States. Students consider the
ways literature reflects history and the human experience…making
connections between history and literature and examining
traditional and contemporary American beliefs, values and
characteristics.

• Jump start allows Seniors to take US/VA Govt. or English 12 online during the

May work from any location with Internet access
Highly qualified teachers facilitate online instruction
Students agree to take a maximum of 6 courses at base school during the following

An application for Jump Start will be available soon within the school counseling

In the event that a student fails to complete the course or earns a failing grade the
student is responsible for paying for the course themselves through Virtual High
School or Night School. The student will not be able to repeat the course through
Osbourn Park.
Who should participate?
• Seniors looking for flexibility to pursue a
job, internship, and or dual
enrollment/college courses
• Seniors with transportation
• Seniors who are independent learners and
are motivated to complete their classwork

Keep in mind……
• Scheduling is a commitment on your part.
It is your responsibility to make informed
decisions with the help of your parents,
teachers and counselors. The last day to
make changes to your course request is
June 17th. No changes will be made after
this date.
Also keep in mind….
• Course requests are requests and not all elective
•
courses can be honored. Therefore, it is your
responsibility to select alternative electives in
order of preference with the intent to take if
your first choice is not available.
If alternative electives are not chosen, the
counselor has the right to choose for the student
based on course availability
