What is Travel SMART?
Travel SMART is a programme designed to provide people with more travel choices that help cut
carbon, calories and cost. It aims to support the growth of schools in Surrey by helping your
pupils, staff and visitors commute more sustainably.
What funding is available?
This cycle improvement fund aims to support schools in providing robust, user friendly facilities
that will encourage students, staff and visitors to cycle to school. Up to £3,000 (exc. VAT) is
available for cycle parking, shelters, secure cycle storage and pumps & stands, and up to £3,000
of match funding is available for facilities that support cycling, for example showers and lockers.
All quotations must include installation costs and associated ground works.
Who can apply?
Any primary or secondary school based in Staines (TW18 and Egham), Camberley (GU15) or the
Blackwater Valley (see map for geographical constraints) with more than 50 pupils.
How can I apply?
Fill out this application form with as much detail as possible, providing two quotes from suppliers
for the facilities you require; including product, installation and ground work costs. A list of
suggested suppliers is available at the end of this application. All applications will be assessed
based on the level of potential benefit of the new facilities to the school. Criteria include:
 Levels of current provision of cycling facilities, number of spaces and condition.
 Likelihood of increased demand for facilities in the next 2 years, e.g. through school
expansion.
 Commitment to active travel promotion through activities and campaigns, e.g. Bikeability.
If you are successful you will be required to provide us with photos of your recent installation. To

The application deadline is 20th November 2015. You will be contacted and informed of the

Section 3: Funding availability
Funding is available for cycle parking, cycle shelters, secure cycle storage, secured
bike pumps, safety equipment and changing room facilities. Applicants will need to
source at least two quotes from suppliers of cycling facilities. A list of suggested
suppliers is available on the last two pages of this application. Please attach quotes
to this application form (separate attachments to an email will suffice). Applications
will be assessed and a decision made based on the level of potential benefit that the
new facilities would provide.

3.3) Please attach a drawing or photo of the location for the new cycling facilities,
along with a brief description of the proposed works. Please consider the security of
your chosen site and explain the reasoning behind this particular location.
3.4 Does the facility you intend to install require planning permission? If YES please
attach all relevant planning permission documents.
Section 4: Terms and Conditions of successful applications
1) Successful applicants must contact the supplier, as selected by us, to arrange
installation dates. All facilities must be installed within 6 weeks of being awarded
funding or by 29 February 2016 (whichever is sooner).
2) Applicants must maintain direct interaction with the supplier until installation is
complete.
3) Applicants must commit to and make arrangements with their chosen supplier for
payments outside of their funding allocation.
4) Applicants must supply us with evidence of installation, for example allowing site
visits or sending photographs of completed installed facilities.
5) Applicants must commit to demonstrating the benefit of installation by reporting on
the number of pupils using the new facilities 3 months after installation.
We reserve the right to change or modify the terms & conditions at any point
during the investigation and installation process.
