OBJECTIVE: To introduce students to the Principles of Microeconomics. The focus will be on consumer,
producer and to some extent government behavior in a free market system.
COURSE OUTLINE: Chapters 1 – 14 will be covered. Homework problems are as given in the next page.
You are expected to read the chapters briefly before lecture, and responsible for everything in the chapter.
TEXT: “Microeconomics” by Hubbard, R. Glenn & O’Brian, Anthony Patrick, 3rd ed., Pearson-Prentice Hall.2010.
GRADING POLICY: There will be two midterms and one final examination carrying 20 points each.
In addition, there will be 3 quizzes, a week before the above exams. Quizzes carry a TOTAL of 20 points.
Homework: Students must complete the assigned homework given on the next page. Please note specific due dates
for the homework at www.myeconlab.com
Extra credit work Any work completed beyond the assigned homework (i.e., review questions at the end of each
chapter, unassigned Problems & Applications, online quizzes etc.) will be treated as extra credit, and will help you
get a better grade, at the margin. But these works MUST BE SUBMITTED in hardcopy (and NOT ONLINE). All
student submissions must be collected from my office within the first week of the following semester. Otherwise,
they will be recycled/discarded.
Copying of any sort will be dealt with very seriously according to university policy.
Attendance will be taken daily, and is extremely important. If a student is absent for more than two days during the
semester, the instructor reserves the right to fail OR lower his/her final grade at his discretion. It is your
responsibility to keep track of your attendances.
Students are not allowed to enter the room once the class starts. Students must inform the instructor
ahead of class if they plan to leave in the middle, and must sit in the front row. Otherwise, they will be
marked absent for that day.
Examinations and Quizzes are, in general, objective type. Tentative dates for the mid-term exams are:
