It is the responsibility of the student to keep up with their technology. If it is lost or stolen the campus DOES NOT conduct an investigation or search for the item. If students are using devices without permission during instructional hours devices can be collected with a $15 fine assessed Collected devices are secured in the front office until a parent/guardian/student pays the fine T ECHNOLOGY E XCEPTIONS Some teachers do allow students to use technology during class on special occasions and/or projects. Specific instructions are given as to when students can use them and when students cannot. Ms. Brown Mrs. Jennings G UIDANCE IN C LASSROOMS We visit every classroom at TMI 6-8 times a year to provide students with “tools” for dealing with life’s ups and downs. Topics covered during guidance: Academic success Decision-making, goal setting, planning, problem-solving skills Interpersonal effectiveness Emotional awareness Responsible behavior S MALL G ROUP C OUNSELING Small groups available, but not limited to: Family Changes Anger management Grief Study Skills/Organization Friendship group Empowering Girls Social Skills I NDIVIDUAL C OUNSELING Some reasons students may need to be seen individually, but not limited to: Preparation for selection of classes for upcoming school year. Help coping with difficult changes in family or school. Help with organization strategies. For encouragement. Death of a family member or close friend. To make good choices about behaviors. Mediation with peers. To tell about something harmful that is happening to themselves or someone else. School anxieties. C HILL O UT C ENTER CHILL OUT CENTER: A place in the counselor’s hallway for students to come and “chill out” when emotions are running too high for being in the classroom. F RIENDS Students may or may not be placed in a class/river with any of his/her current closest friends from the previous school. This is a huge part of “change” from elementary school to intermediate. We want students to look at this as an opportunity to increase their friendship circle by making more friends beginning within the new class. WATCH D.O.G.S. (D ADS O F G REAT S TUDENTS ) We welcome dads, step-dads, uncles, brothers, or grandpas who are willing and able to volunteer during our school day.
