I can help one buy that dream house which everyone wants and needs, I can buy
one love but it won’t last forever, and most importantly I can get one around in style. I
am what one may call, a shining night in armor. I can make lives easier, but if one over
uses me they will pay the price. I am money. Money is destroying the idea of love
and caring, and turning it in to greed. Money may buy one; all the riches in the
world, but it won’t buy one happiness. As well-renowned futurist, Jacques Fresco
once said, “ I was asked once “you’re a smart man why aren't you rich?” I replied,
you’re a rich man. Why aren't you smart.” Jacques not only realizes what money
can do to a man, he also realizes how to avoid it. Materialistic things are not only
digging holes in pockets; they are also destroying society at a rapid pace. 1
When a guy drives by in a beat up Kia with half the bumper hanging off, a
common reaction is, “Wow what a loser.” This is because in life one makes judgments
on people based on their looks, social status, and economic status. Even though if one
does not know this guy personality, it is easy to see through his ratchet ride, the only
thing this guy is collecting is bills piled up in his mail box. One may not realize it, but
people profile others by their status every day. Another way, one may profile people is by
what they wear. 2 Some people cannot afford nice clothes so they will get made fun of
for not wearing Abercrombie and Fitch or Hollister. The people that will be beating them
up are the people that spend $60 on a shirt. What person with a good sense of judgment
would throw away sixty dollars on a simple undershirt? It is a complete waste of money.
All the company's are doing are taking a regular shirt that you probably could get at
Walmart for Five Bucks and sticking there brand name on it," Wow so original." Sixty
dollar can get movie tickets, a McDonald value meal, and get some cloths at Kohl’s (with
some money left over). Even people who have nice clothes are getting judged because
they don’t have “the right ones”. A sixth grader named Aryana McPike has had her fair
share with this issue. Even though her closet is stuffed to the brim with designer brands
like Dolce & Gabbana, Juicy Couture, True Religion and Seven For All Mankind, her
friends (or should I say her peers) are still not satisfied. Why should one have to change
his or her unique style based on others opinions?3 It is totally baffling. If people start to
judge others by their personality instead of by what they have or how they dress it would
definitely result in a better, understanding, caring community, which we can all benefit
from.
Anytime, one may mention Christmas to a child they will say they want a
iPhone 8, ( I don't care if its not out yet find me one) , Xbox One, a car of my own, a pair
of totally hip sneakers *1000. Honestly, has anyone has ever heard a child say I
don't want anything; the only thing I want is to put a stop to violence, and end world
hunger, is that so much to ask for? One wants money, one needs money, give me money
needs to end because people are being miss led on the true meaning of the holiday. This
not only causing them to miss the true meaning of the holiday it is also causing them to
become greedy and selfish and they have their parents to blame for that. Black Friday and
parents go together like peanut butter and jelly. We all know that parents are very loving
and caring, but sometimes they take things a little to far. One of the main things parents
do is they are always looking for the best deals. That’s a very good thing but when
parents do this they misinform their kids on the true meaning of the holiday. They don’t
even know the true meaning of the holiday themselves? Gift giving on holidays also
causes people to get caught up with complications of who gets what and how much
do I need to spend. As you can see gift giving on holidays is just a volcano waited to
erupt.
People just do not realize the impact materialistic things have on
society. Because of this materialistic things have taken over the world and caused people
to be attached to them like a baby with a blanket. On the other hand, if we did not have
materialistic thing I think the world would be a very chaotic place.2 But, if you use them
to much you will become overwhelming attached to it and it will be very hard to
stop.2 Its never good to do too much of something, you have to do it in moderation. In
conclusion, materialistic things are ruining society and destroying people and there
money in a flash.1,2
