Sewing Safety Contract
This contract must be signed by you and your parent or guardian. You will not be
permitted to begin the sewing project until it is signed and returned to me.
1. I will use sewing equipment and tools with respect and care. Pins, needles and scissors
are all sharp, and I know that misuse of any of these tools will result in an accident.
2. I will be aware of those around me. I will never lift needles toward someone’s face, or
gesture with a scissor, a pin, or a needle in my hand.
3. I will remain in my seat at all times. I will raise my hand if I need to get up.
4. My scissors will always be on the table unless I am using them. I will keep the blades
closed when not in use. I know that misuse of scissors will result in an accident.
5. I will never cut anyone else’s material or thread. I know that doing so is dangerous and
is not permitted.
6. I will use my pins and needles properly. I will never place them in my mouth or skin.
7. I will keep track of my pins and needles. I will place them on my supply square when not
in use. I must hand them in with my finished project, and I know that if any are missing
at that time, points will be deducted from my final grade (needle – 5 pts., pins – 1 pt.
each).
8. I will always work on the table, not in mid-air or on my lap.
9. I know that fooling around or silly behavior is not permitted while sewing, because it can
result in an accident.
10. I will stop working when I am told to so that I can clean up and store my work.
 I have read and understand all of the above safety rules and will follow them while sewing in
the classroom.
 I understand that any violation of these rules will result in me being given textbook work to
complete for the rest of the sewing unit, and my project will be graded on what I have
completed.
