Business & Technology
Course #07.44100
Mrs. A. Hosmer
Email: angie.hosmer@cobbk12.org
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
How is technology used to solve business problems and communicate solutions? Business and
Technology is designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to be an asset to the
collaborative, global, and innovative business world of today and tomorrow. Mastery use of
spreadsheets and the ability to apply leadership skills to make informed business decisions will be a
highlight of this course for students. Publishing industry appropriate documents to model effective
communication and leadership will be demonstrated through project based learning. Students will use
spreadsheet and database software to manage data while analyzing, organizing and sharing data
through visually appealing presentation.
Various forms of technologies will be used to expose students to resources, software, and
applications of business practices. Professional communication skills and practices, problem solving,
ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective presentation skills are enhanced in this course to
prepare students to be college and career ready. Employability skills are integrated into activities,
tasks, and projects throughout the course standards to demonstrate the skills required by business
and industry. Competencies in the co-curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of
America (FBLA), are integral components of the employability skills standard for this course.
Business and Technology is the second course in the Business and Technology pathway in the
Business Management and Administration cluster. Students enrolled in this course should have
successfully completed Introduction to Business and Technology.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
You are expected to adhere to the WHS Computer-Related Discipline Policy and WHS
Expectations for Behavior given in your Student Handbook found on Wheelerhigh.com.
Be respectful of all teachers, staff, visitors, and your fellow classmates.
Do not download any software, game, video, or music on any school computer. It is in violation of
Cobb County Computer regulations.
You will be responsible for having a writing utensil and folder/notebook to keep all notes,
handouts, and daily printouts. These should be brought to class every day.
Headphones may be used only if plugged into the CPU and used while working on an
assignment—NOT during instruction. If the student abuses this privilege, it will be taken away
from the individual student.
Cell phones, cameras, and other media or storage devices should not be used unless the teacher
has given you prior approval for a school-related assignment.
If you are absent, YOU must make up your work on YOUR time. Upon returning to school after an
absence, it will be YOUR responsibility to check and see what you have missed. Make up or extra
help times are daily from 7:30 until 8:15. Please schedule in advance with me for other times.
Be on time to class. Once the bell rings, the door will be shut and you will need to go to the
nearest LAS to receive tardy slip to get back into class. Instructional time is very important so
reserve hall passes for emergencies. Use them wisely. You are allowed ten (10) for the whole
semester. School policy states that no student should be allowed out of the class the first 15 min.
of class or within the last 15 min. of class.
