December PSS Poetry Contest Winners Loves . . . Past, Present, and Future You've been hurt too many times and you say all men are the same When a good man comes to heal the burns of the past flame You push him away blaming him for the heated blaze from the past Never giving him the chance to ignite a passionate fire With love, care, and affection. Your life is stuck on rewind He wants to push play and move forward in the right direction If you keep dwelling in the past you'll never know what the future holds You can't close a door if you never open it Can't allow your past to haunt you forever So stop blaming the present for the past Or you'll never have a future. The dinner, the family, The laughter, The once-in-a-while reunion, The weather, Thanksgiving, Christmas, The turkey or ham? That will always be history’s question. It will be, until the new minute, The new hour, the new day, The new week, the new month, The New Year, the new decade, The new century, The new history, The next life. When our intentions get high and Ho! Ho! Ho! ‘s give you warmth inside When kids hop like rabbits Around the tall tree When happiness knows no border When it is so cold outside, You need a coat And can’t sail your boat, When snowballs cause fights And Christmas angels fill the sky Magenta Heisler, 8th Grade La’Dray Maxwell, 12th grade Apologetic Forgiveness I’m the really, really If you ask why, I’ll tell you it’s my honesty If I hurt your feelings, then accept my apology I just need my mind blown from the shot Of forgiveness and hear it so logically I only asked not once and not twice But one-hundred times So I stop, I breath, and I take my last glance Then I ask for a second chance Jeffrey Worley, 9th grade December PSS Poetry Contest Honorable Mentions I Don’t Know I don’t know how to do this poem stuff Writing poems seems more complicated than tough I tried doing it just now, but nothing came to mind It feels like my mind has gone completely blank Wait, wait . . .
