Course Description
Economics examines the allocation of resources and their uses for satisfying human needs and wants.
The course analyzes economic reasoning used by consumers, producers, savers, investors, workers,
voters, and government in making decisions. Key elements of the course include study of scarcity and
economic reasoning, supply and demand, market structures, role of government, national income
determination, the role of financial institutions, economic stabilization, and trade. Students will
explain that because resources are limited, people must make choices and understand the role that
supply, demand, prices, and profits play in a market economy. The functions of government in a
market economy and market structures will be examined. Students will understand economic
performance, money, stabilization policies, and trade of the United States. The behavior of people,
societies and institutions and economic thinking is integral to this course.
Is this course required or an elective?: This course is required of all high school students in their senior
year.

Policies or procedures for attendance, tardy, etc.:
Tardy Policy: Boulder Creek Tardy Policy will be enforced:
1. Do not be late to class or you will have to report to sweeps, if the door is shut and the bell has
rung, go directly to sweeps.
2. The student is responsible for any work missed while in sweeps and any assignment that was
due must be turned in the same day the student goes to sweeps
3. Students who go to sweeps on a test day will return to class and take the test that day or you will
not receive credit for the test
Late/Absent Work: If you are absent you have 1 day per every absence to make up any absent work.
Late work will be taken up to 2 days after it is due for 50% off. Anything more than 2 days late will not
be accepted.
Grading information statement regarding late work, grading scale, etc:
A 90-100%: Excellent academic performance; consistent mastery of facts and concepts; and a
thorough understanding of course content.
B 80-89%: Good academic performance; high-level mastery of course content.
C 70-79%: Average academic performance.
D 60-69%: Marginal academic performance; poor mastery of course content.
F Below 60%: Very poor performance; no demonstration of even minimal mastery of course
content.
What is included in my grading system?
50% - Exams
20% - Homework/In-Class Assignments
10% - Long Term Project
20% - Final Exam
Exam Make-Ups
These are available Tuesday-Friday at 7:00am. You must let Mr. Martinez know one day in
advance that you plan on attending a make-up session.
Make-Up Sessions will be with the following teachers.
Tuesday: Mrs. Pondy (Room 403)
Wednesday: Mr. Bennett (Room 636)
Thursday: Miss Brown (Room 402)
Friday: Mr. Martinez (Room 404)
Interactive Notebooks: All students are required to maintain a ISN, Interactive Student
Notebook. A few pages of the Interactive Notebook will be completed every day. The first five
minutes of each class period are dedicated to completing the Preview, Objective, and Title
sections of the page. Throughout the rest of the class period you are responsible for either taking
specific notes or completing an activity in the remaining space. Interactive Notebooks will be
collected after each exam for an exam grade.
Make sure you complete your daily work and do not fall behind.
