What is juxtaposition? How do you create a work of art using this concept? Standard(s): 2.2 Plan and create works of art that reflect complex ideas, such as distortion, color theory, arbitrary color, scale, expressive content, and real versus virtual. 2.5 Use innovative visual metaphors in creating works of art. Unit 4: Juxtaposition. Learning Objective (s): SWBAT… CC SS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.1b - Conduct research in the library, computer lab, or from various students. Students will plan and create juxtaposition diptychs that express a personal opinion or belief. Students will produce art pieces with a unifying color scheme - Students create an art piece that uses unique, creative visual metaphors, strong technical painting & drawing skills, an accurate color harmony, and attention to detail. - Students can clearly explain their unifying color scheme through writing and/or speaking: Including identifying their color harmony as complementary, split-complementary, analogous, triadic, or monochromatic and naming the colors included (advanced modification). - Students can clearly explain their conceptual intentions, using academic language: Including appropriate use of the term juxtaposition, and citing visual evidence from their art pieces in their explanation. Meet with instructor for independent construction plan and approval. Thursday/Friday: 1. Independent project and Introduction to artist statement guidelines. Metaphor Art, Juxtaposition Art, Symbolism, Surrealism, Dadaism Independent / Studio Session Studio Station- Teacher will review how to complete sketchbook entries. – FIRST: Brainstorm a list of 6 themes and identify 1 interesting image combination for each theme among them.
