is to educate the U of T community with different perspectives and ideas in Global Health.
We are currently recruiting Managing Editors and Associate Editors, for the 2015-2016
Juxtaposition team.

Introducing vaccines in low and middle income countries (LMICs) are significant
challenges. Obstacles are posed by the costs of procuring new vaccines and also by logistical
challenges of prepping existing infrastructure and giving priority to some interventions to make the
best of limited resources. Hence, the process need to be well thought out and also highly evidencebased. The introduction of the Hib-pentavalent vaccine in 2009 in Bangladesh highlights how this
can be done. This was a massive accomplishment for the Expanded Programme on Immunization
(EPI) in Bangladesh – not only because the vaccine was effective, but because it was the first
introduction based on specific data. Having introduced the vaccine, evidence also needed to be
collected about effectiveness.
