Longview Lynx November Newsletter Principal’s Message: What to do about Homework? There has been a lot of information in the news lately regarding homework, the purpose, the amount of time kids spend on homework, and whether it’s beneficial or not. While many of those answers can become somewhat opinionated, there are still some clear benefits to homework and the role it plays in your child’s education and preparation for life. The main thing I know that works is to show your children that homework is important to you. Give your child a structured time and place to do their homework and let them know you are there for them should they need assistance. If homework is a battle, please talk with your child’s teacher on how to possibly make things more beneficial for all. As we are all in this together, excellent communication amongst parents, students, and teachers, regarding homework is essential! Thank you for all your efforts in this huge responsibility to prepare your children for the future! Please see the link below, from PBS.org, for more tips and details on supporting your child with homework. Please take the following survey so we can analyze homework practices at Longview Elementary: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XMCSZTJ PBS.org link about supporting students with homework: http://www.pbs.org/parents/education/going-to-school/supporting-your-learner/homework-help/ Welcome to Longview Ms. Dewyea: I grew up in the Sandy area and made many happy memories here. In high school I was involved in soccer, track-hurdles, swimming (12th), basketball (9th), piano, rock climbing, dance classes, hiking, and crafts. I have always enjoyed movement and getting out. I went to BYU-I for two years, then taught English in China for a semester (grades K-6). Next, I went to BYU and served a Chinese-speaking mission in Taiwan. Finally, in-between traveling Europe, Australia and Alaska, I graduated from SUU in the spring of 2014, 9 years after my high school graduation. I have always been a very curious and active person who enjoys the world around me and craves new learning experiences. I spent this last summer teaching boy scouts how to rock climb, rappel and backpack. It is rewarding to see people do hard things. I am excited to teach at Longview Elementary this year so that I can share my love of learning with the students. I hope my many experiences will enhance their learning. I love to teach. -Ms. Dewyea School t-shirts: We are working with a different company this year to offer school t-shirts to our community.
