THINGS TO WORK ON NOW FOR COLLEGES
Personal Statement—Most college application ask for some sort of
personal statement. Practice writing them.
• Talk about a time when you struggled and persevered.
• What does diversity mean to you?
• How will you impact our university?
• What is leadership?
Academic Resume- What have you taken in school, clubs , activities,
awards and COMMUNITY SERVICE
CELEBRATING YOU
FOUNDATION
Every one of you going to need something in the next 8
months from a parent, grandparent, teacher, or administrator,
etc. How are you going to lay the foundation to have your
needs met?
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Ask early.
Teachers, coaches, counselors, will NEVER
write things for you or about you that are
not true. Their integrity is on the line. In
other words, make sure they have the
good stuff to talk about.

ADVICE FOR STUDENTS
Follow through, do what you say you will do. This is called
credibility.
Finish for you. This is pride.
Ask for help. This is strength, not weakness.
Communicate with people you need. This will be a life skill.
Don’t burn bridges. You might need the bridge to make the
journey.
Come to school. Duh!
ADVICE FOR PARENTS
• Stay involved. Don’t take “I don’t know”
or “nothin’” as a response
• Communicate with Ms Maxey
• Ask lots of questions.
• Ask to see their work
• Spend time on the website and on
skyward.
