Daily Procedures for 7th Grade Science 1. IN: On board each day…students have about 5 minutes to answer by collaborating and discussing with their group or individually. This is the objective for the daily lesson and is designed to engage your child. 2. Activities: Stations using their IPAD. Google site – provides curriculum information, agenda, assignments, videos, PowerPoints, and interactive websites/Google Classroom IPAD – apps for curriculum, daily lessons and activities, review and test Reading with a Purpose – Stemscope and Discovery Ed on-line textbooks also have videos and interactive lessons Critical/Supporting Vocabulary – use thinking maps, foldables, diagrams, Cornell Notes, Smartboard activities, drawings, iPad apps Inquiry Labs – Descriptive, Comparative and Experimental Gizmos – hands on through simulation IPAD lessons – check for understanding and review (Kahoot, Socrative, Quizlet) All units are taught with the 5 E model guideline. Engage Explore Explain Elaborate Evaluate A quiz, test or project will help evaluate the understanding of unit objectives and essential concepts. Project Based Learning, monitored and appropriate technology, Skype and Oovoo are ways to connect with other classes and the community. Each style of learning is touched upon for the benefit of your child because ALL children learn in different ways. 3. OUT: On board each day…students have about 5 minutes at the end of each class to reflect in their INB. This summarizes the objective and emphasizes relevance to the “real world”. Thank you for the opportunity to teach your child. Please check my Google Calendar for a weekly agenda through the Science website. Let us know if we can be of assistance. An outdoor field trip to LLELA/LAERF is scheduled on October 5th and 6th. If you have any questions please e-mail Mr. Fields at FieldsJ@lisd.net We also are looking for volunteers to chaperone the trip to LLEA. If any of you are interested please email. We invite you to visit our classrooms and we encourage you to check our website for lessons and information. It is going to be an outstanding year. We appreciate your support and look forward to meeting you on September 15th at Parent Night! 7th Grade Science Coach Fields 469-713-5966 First Semester Second Semester Inquiry through Plant Studies This unit of study is an integration of the nature of science and an introduction to plants with emphasis on safety, measurement and lab design. Homeostasis in the Human Body This unit focuses on the complementary nature of structure and function to achieve homeostasis in the human body. Skeletal, muscular, integumentary, circulatory, respiratory, excretory, nervous, reproductive and endocrine systems will be studied. All students will dissect a chicken wing and a frog as a comparison to the human body. Plants in the Environment This unit of study will focus on how biotic and abiotic environmental factors can affect a plants survival to achieve equilibrium and that biodiversity is necessary. Homeostasis in an Ecosystem The focus of this unit is how homeostasis is achieved due to the cycling of matter and the changes that occur through ecological succession. Adaptations This unit of study will focus on adaptations over time. Students will predict positive and negative effects of mutations. Populations will be tracked while identifying internal and external features to predict survival. Genetics The focus of this unit is the passage of genetic material from parent to offspring in sexual and asexual reproduction and the role of dominant and recessive genes. Homeostasis in Space The focus of this unit is evaluating the needs of living organisms and how Earth supports such needs. Students will evaluate whether these needs exist elsewhere in our solar system and predict how to replicate these conditions to allow for manned space exploration. Lamar Longhorns.....
