Irregular Past Participles (avoir verbs)
• Many verbs that are irregular in the present also
have irregular past participles.
• Therefore, no rule for formation, you need to
memorize them.
• Each time you learn a new irr. verb in the
present, you need to learn its p.p.
• Remember “avoir” verbs don’t agree with subject!
Examples of irr. p.p. that take ‘avoir’ as aux. verb.

Last year, he saw the Eiffel Tower.
L’année dernière, il a vu la Tour Eiffel.

 1. Did you (s/inf.) finish your homework? (inversion)
 2. I turned on the television when we were at home.
 3. My friends and I went on a walk after school.
 4. She was happy.
 5. He waited for his friend at school.
 6. What did they give to their parents? (inversion)
 7. You (pl) had 3 tests this week.
 8. They saw the Arc de Triomphe when they were in
Paris.
