Champion High School Northwest Vista College Dual Credit Program Overview • In Dual Credit Classes, college credit is earned upon completion of the class with a grade of “C” or higher (no additional test) • Dual Credit courses generally transfer to most Texas Public Universities • It is the student’s responsibility to confirm with the school they want to attend about transfer credits • Saves money o Students can earn up to 2 courses of college credit each semester at no cost o Reduces the costs of tuition and textbooks resulting in thousands of dollars in savings • Gets some prerequisites out of the way • Dual Credit is college. Students will be exposed to college level material at CHS • Students in the program are considered college students; are protected by FERPA laws • Dual Credit grades do become part of the student’s high school permanent academic record • In an AP (Advance Placement) Class, college credit is not earned until a student takes and achieves a certain score on an AP test. • Dual credit is a course for college credit. Test scores SAT or ACT (send scores directly to NVC) Eligibility is determined exclusively by Northwest Vista College based on a completed application packet and test scores High School Transcript will be sent by CHS Very Important information: FINAL STEPS Returning Dual Credit Students: • DO NOT have to RE-APPLY February 7, 2014 • Apply Texas Application must be completed and submitted April 22, 2014 • Student/Parent Consent Form due in Counseling Office • Deadline to submit SAT/ACT test scores from College Board Last opportunities to test before April 22nd deadline: • SAT – March 8 (registration deadline Feb. 7) • ACT – February 8 (registration deadline Jan. 10) June 12, 2014 • Students needing to retest for a qualifying score may take an exam at NVC in an attempt to qualify for dual credit participation
