PO 5 Strand Two World History Concept Six PO 6 Destiny: The expansion of the United States westward and the issues of slavery that follow it. Revolution for a better life and home November 16 to December 18 January 5 to February 5 Students will learn about expansion of the United States westward and its interactions/treatment of Native Americans and other nations where they struggle for new territory (Texas and the Southwest against Mexico). Also the growth of democracy and the American economy as well as the issue of slavery and where it should be allowed as it leads increasingly to the possibility of Civil War. Age of Nationalism to March 4 March 14 to April 15 specifically to the War for the Confederacy from 1861 to 1865. Students will also learn about the causes, major battles, and results of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction Period that followed. United States History Students will learn about more examples of nationalist drives in Italy, Germany, the Austro Hungarian Empire, Zionism, India, Japan, China and Africa and their similarities and differences.
