Position Summary: The Senior Category Manager- Transportation will develop and implement national category strategies and provider relationships to meet business needs by leveraging our transportation spend, to provide greater value in cost, speed, delivery, responsiveness, and quality of services offered. Key Responsibilities: Identify and lead sourcing projects and events within the category to optimize Total Cost of Ownership and improve service levels to the business and customer. Prepare RFXs to evaluate potential suppliers and make appropriate recommendations for sourcing strategy. Negotiate contracts with service providers that are aligned with the national strategy. Transportation sourcing categories will include Parcel, LTL, Truckload, Flatbed, Intermodal, FCL, LCL, Freight Forwarding, and Brokerage. The role also will handle fleet vehicle procurement and leases for rail cars. Develops metrics to insure proper balance of supplier service and price. Collaborate with Transportation to deliver operational excellence in the common carrier base. Interface with operations, sales and carriers to insure continuous improvement. Interface with plant and transportation operations personnel to insure compliance with the carrier programs. Maintain market intelligence related to transportation and logistics markets to identify market trends and create potential risk mitigation strategies. Investigate root cause analysis issues for problem reconciliation and lead corrective action for complaints related to contractual issues associated with transportation. May be required to travel up to 25%. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field. Master’s degree preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered. 10 + years of procurement experience required. Experience developing category strategies, sourcing and negotiating highly-complex services for a multisite global organization desired. Strong negotiation skills with equipment vendors; prior Carrier interface desired. Proven leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong interpersonal, collaboration and presentation skills. Must be able to create and develop concepts/solutions that support Nexeo's business requirements.
