Training Information
Mandatory Training
First Aid (12hr Paediatric) £25.00
This course is designed for those working or volunteering in the childcare sector. The training meets the
national minimum standards for regulated childcare. Over 12 hours, candidates will receive a high level of
training, to enable them to deal with first aid emergencies affecting babies and children. A certificate is issued
which is valid for 3 years.
Food Hygiene – mandatory £25.00
The course is delivered in a classroom environment with group work and practical exercises. Workbooks are
provided and candidates are encouraged to make additional notes. Completion of the course is subject to a
formal examination at the end of the day. Successful candidates will receive a certificate from the Highfield
Awarding Body for Compliance. The Award Body for the Food Safety qualification requires all candidates to
provide proof of identification.
 Valid passport.
 Signed UK photocard driving license.
 Valid Warrant Card issued by HM Forces, Police.
 Other photographic ID card e.g. employee ID card, Student ID card, Travelcard.
 Signed bank card.
For good practice candidates should attend this course every three years.
Child Protection Awareness £25.00
This course is for new childcare workers who have no prior knowledge or experience of child protection and
safeguarding. These candidates will be expected to attend the full Child Protection course within 12 months in
order to receive accreditation.
Child Protection – mandatory £25.00
This course aims to provide delegates with a detailed understanding of Child Protection, particularly in relation
to the systems that exist to safeguard children and their role within these systems. All staff undertaking training
at Level 2/3 should demonstrate the knowledge acquired at Level 1. Delegates will gain a clear and detailed
understanding of the systems that exist to safeguard children and their role within these systems. In addition,
training at this level will also equip delegates with an understanding of legislation and guidance, as well as local
procedures.
For good practice candidates should attend this course at least every three years, or more frequently as
required.
Health and Safety/fire safety/risk assessment £25.00
Participants will have a greater understanding of health, safety and environmental issues within the work place
and their role in recognising, preventing and recording risk, hazards and accidents. Update your knowledge of
current legislation, how to assess and reduce the risks of fire and what you should do in the event of a fire.
Ability to conduct risk assessments appropriate to the child care setting, familiarity with the relevant health and
safety legislation and highlights the risks associated with the working environment and client group.

Special Educational Needs Training
Developing special practice in early years level 2 £20.00
To develop the skills and knowledge of practitioners in School and PVI (Private, Voluntary Institutions) Early
Years
Foundation Stage Settings regarding inclusion and effective provision and practice for children with Special
Educational Needs and Disabilities. To consider a systematic approach to assessment, planning and support
and examine the roles and responsibilities of all EYFS practitioners and the Special Educational Needs
Coordinator.

Kind Hands £20.00
The IMPACT Kind Hands Instructor’s training is accredited one-day training for staff working with early years’
children. The programme is also suitable for staff and parents working with children with complex needs.
Kind Hands:
 is a programme of positive touch and clothed child to child and parent to child massage
 helps children’s development through play and supports the early years foundation stage
 uses simple, adaptable and effective techniques
 is based on a concept of respect and choice
 is taught by adults working with young children and children with complex needs and their
parents/carers
 can be used at home
Instructor’s training involves theoretical and practical experience. Instructors learn a series of simple
massage strokes and how to use them in nursery rhymes, stories and other activities. The Foundation Phase,
which is the statutory curriculum for all children of 3-7 years, encourages them to be creative, imaginative and
have fun, making learning more enjoyable and effective.
The manual supports the instructor’s training and provides background information about the factors related to
the programme. It contains information about:
 the physical and emotional development of children
 teaching and learning styles
 how positive touch and peer massage contribute to the above
Practical work is individual, paired and group work. Consideration is given to the way in which the programme
can be used in the instructor’s organisation and how to work with parents.
Epilepsy £10.00
This course has been designed for staff within the Health & Social Care Sector working with either adults or
children to obtain an understanding of epilepsy, its causes and treatment . It dully supports an understanding, of
the effects of epilepsy whilst providing under pinning knowledge to plan care, assess risk and develop strategies
to ensure a safe environment is maintained.

This course has been designed as an introductory level for staff working with children to obtain an understanding of
sensory impairments. It dually promotes an understanding of key issues a child may face with communication and
development and how early access intervention strategies can enhance wellbeing and learning. Therefore, it will
prompt staff to identify signs and symptoms of a sensory impairment, whilst emphasising how support can be
provided sourced where required.

Positive Behaviour Management in Early Years £20.00
The training places the emphasis on preserving and developing positive relationships between those who
exhibit challenging behaviour and those who work with them. The course aims to:
Establish a common value base for work with challenging behaviour.
Understand what underpins challenging behaviour.
Place challenging behaviour within the context of life and experience.
Understand the environment and individual and how they can contribute to challenging behaviour.

For baby room and foundation phase children
Explore and Play Treasure Baskets £10.00
This Treasure Basket and Heuristic Play workshop is focused on Elinor Goldschmied’s approach to offering
open ended play opportunities to young babies and children; encouraging learners to develop their knowledge,
understanding and skills in order to utilise treasure baskets and encourage heuristic play to support babies and
children’s learning and development. This rich sensory experience will also link to the Foundation phase in order
to support the child to thrive mentally, emotionally and physically.

This workshop has been developed for the childcare sector to ensure that all early years professionals have a
positive approach to working with babies and are confident in implementing what they have learnt within their
setting. The workshop will give the opportunity for practitioners to share good practice, learn new experiences
and it will help practitioners to develop their team’s confidence when planning and working with babies.
Story Telling £10.00
A practical session for anyone working with children and young people looking at ways to develop storytelling
techniques in a fun interactive way (storytelling isn’t purely about reading books).
Brave Boys £10.00
A course for early years practitioners with new and vital strategies for raising attainment of boys. A half day
training session to give nursery managers and practitioners the knowledge to raise attainment levels for boys,
helping them to become confident, capable and creative.
Foundation Phase & Observation, Planning and assessment £20.00
This workshop has been developed for the childcare sector to ensure that all early year’s professionals have an
understanding of the Foundation Phase and are confident in implementing it within their setting. This interactive
workshop will help you to gather new ideas on how to implement the Foundation Phase holistically; it will
discuss the seven areas of learning and will provide practitioners with examples of holistic planning. The
workshop will give the opportunity for practitioners to share good practice and discuss why a balanced approach
to planning within the Foundation Phase is essential. It will help you to develop your team’s confidence when
planning for the Foundation Phase.
The second part of the training is an interactive course to identify the value of observations and linking to key
aspects of development. At the end of this course practitioners will be able to identify the skills required to
undertake observations and recognise the value of observations to inform the planning of resources, activities
and adult interactions.

The Communication Friendly Spaces Approach One Day Programme Focusing on Expanding Appropriate
Provision for Two Year Olds
The preparation and delivery of an interactive training day, which introduces the Communication Friendly
Spaces Approach as a framework to inform, audit and review of current and future provision for 2 year olds.
Contend would illustrate CFS theory with lots of imagery and video clips from a wide variety of contexts working
really well with 2 year olds and their families, to demonstrate how the principles underpinning the approach have

Input would also illustrate and consider a selection of particularly relevant points e.g. significant times in the day

exchange of information about the child, the personalisation of the environment, adding points of interest to
trigger communication, understanding and making available children’s preferred contexts for learning,
maximizing the whole space inside and out, introducing small spaces, softness and homeliness, considering
different ways of grouping children, the need for flexibility, recognising and supporting schemas in play,
resourcing the space appropriately – natural, open ended resources, seasonal resources, recycled resources,
re-purposed resources, according to children’s fascinations and on a developmentally appropriate scale.

Food and Nutrition Snapshot for the Early Years £10.00
This training session is aimed at people working within pre-school settings (children aged 0-5). It is a ‘Snapshot’
training session that will aim to provide an introduction to Nutrition for Early Years. It will highlight the important
of good nutrition and some of the key issues in early years. It will be a fun, interactive session of group work,

Manual Handling £10.00
Designed especially for staff working with children in various settings where moving and picking up equipment
and children is part of the daily routine. The course contains definitions on manual handling, the types of
injuries you can receive due to incorrect practice, and basic anatomy of the spine and muscles within the body.
Factors which contribute to safer handling and good base movement are also covered.
Infection Controls £10.00
This course aims to provide participants with an overview of infection control measure to prevent the acquisition
and transmission of infectious agents. The course is delivered using interactive training sessions with taught
elements, supported by worksheets, visual aids, group exercises, case studies and practical hand hygiene
activities. The course will provide the opportunity for participants to discuss the most common infections
present in their workplace and discuss the importance of effective hand hygiene, environmental hygiene and the
use of PPE to minimise risk and promote best practice at all times. The course will cover what is infection
control, policy and procedure, legislation, PPE, at risk groups, bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi, the chain of
infection, modes of transmission, sharps injury, personal hygiene, spillages and communicable diseases.
Supervision and Appraisal £10.00
This course explains the procedures for staff supervision and staff appraisal development. By the end of the
course participants will know how to conduct supervision and appraisal, why it is needed, how to record and use
the information gathered.
