Activity: Write a 2-3 paragraph summary about the article on diabetes:

Collect Diabetes Assignment for a grade
Warm-up: List several substances to which you or people you know are allergic to. How are those
substances similar?
Activity: Visual Learning: Figure 18.3 pg. 481: Have volunteers describe the skin in the photograph and
read aloud the title and caption. Then help students consider each of the body’s responses to allergens.
Have them share their own experiences with allergens and allergic responses.
Assessment/Assignment: Chapter 18, Lesson 2 Quiz
Review: Ask each student to name one way allergies and asthma are similar and one way they are
different?
