Senior Project
The senior project is a culminating high school initiative that assesses and demonstrates a student’s knowledge
and abilities as s/he prepares to graduate—specifically, the abilities to write, speak, acquire and use knowledge,
solve problems, and apply a variety of skills, including time management and task analysis.
Students use comprehensive resources to work through four phases:
Rigorous, self-identified project - Developed/completed with mentor support.
Research paper - Reflects information acquisition and literary skills, accompanies and supports project.
Portfolio - Demonstrates and verifies the process used to complete project.
Formal, oral presentation - Student presents his/her findings, conclusions, and recommendations to a
panel of adults from the community.
All LHS Seniors are required to complete a senior project, with these exceptions:
Seniors in classes of 2012 and 2013 may be exempt from the senior project if they are enrolled in 12 hours of
dual/college credit or three AP classes.
Beginning with the class of 2014, all seniors will be required to complete a senior project.

ATTENDANCE
Research shows that good academic performance is directly related to regular attendance. Absenteeism slows
down the rate of instruction and interferes with the entire teaching-learning process. If you must be absent from
school for any reason, please follow these procedures:
To excuse an absence due to illness the student must:
 Bring a note from their parent before school, on the first day back to school. Within three days of the absence, if
no excuse is provided, the absence will remain unexcused.
 Have the parent call the attendance office to let the school know that their student will be out ill all day.
Contact – Judy Hise – 469-742-8715
 If a student is planning to leave school early, the parent must check student out with Rhonda Lloyd at the front
desk.
 If a student is signing themselves out, we ask that the parent send an email to Student_Signout@lovejoyisd.net
with the following information:
o Student’s Name
o Time of Departure
o Reason for leaving
o Phone number where the parent can be contacted so we can call to confirm
 Under no circumstances may any student leave school without first signing out at the front desk.
SCHOOL DRESS
The District prohibits students from wearing clothing that portrays pictures, emblems or writings that are
lewd, vulgar, or obscene, or that advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or
any other prohibited substance, and prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the Campus
Disciplinarian's judgment may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of, or interference with,
normal school operations. Further information on student dress codes may be found In the Student
Handbook, Section II, page 35. Final decisions on the appropriateness of school dress rest with
campus administrators.

TIPS FOR FRESHMEN
Schedule of Classes – Freshmen are required to take a full schedule of classes. Carefully select the
courses for your Freshman year. The master schedule is developed based on your course selections and
students are expected to follow their schedule exactly. A balance should be struck between the level of
course work and outside time commitment.
Tutorials - Teachers offer tutorials daily. Times may vary by departments, so be sure and check each
teacher’s tutorial schedule. Students who attend and use tutorials as an academic resource experience a
greater understanding of the subject matter.
A maximum of 2 off campus credits may be applied toward high school
graduation requirements. A maximum of 2 credit-by-exam credits may be
applied toward high school graduation requirements.
College Courses/Concurrent Enrollment – No more than two full credits for high school graduation
may be earned through a combination of concurrent enrollment in college courses, correspondence
courses and all other off campus courses. One semester of college coursework is equivalent to one
semester of high school coursework.
Correspondence Courses – For District students who take correspondence courses from TEAapproved colleges (University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech University), credit will be awarded for a
grade of 70 or above but no grade points will be assigned. The grade awarded will appear on the
student’s transcript. Out-of district electronic courses are addressed in the same manner as
correspondence courses. Students may not enroll in any correspondence, on-line, college or summer
school course without counselor approval.
Off-Campus Coursework Policy -Students must be finished with any on-line courses before the 1st day
of the last semester he or she can enroll in the course at LHS. Example - Physics A must be finished
before the 1st day of school in August of the senior year. Any semester course must be finished by
January of the senior year.
Credits Transferred from other accredited schools – Credits will be awarded for courses recognized
by the Texas Education Agency for credit. The grades from the approved transfer of credits will be used
to calculate a student’s grade point average in accordance to District policy. Accredited schools are
those whose accreditation is recognized by the Texas Commissioner of Education.
Summer Programs Abroad – No credit or grade points will be assigned for summer abroad courses
such as People to People or Rotary Club programs. It is very important to discuss your plans for
alternate credit with your school counselor. The counselor must approve all alternate credits.
