Boone County Drug Prevention Coalition Meeting Minutes July 17, 2015 Treasurer’s Report o We have a balance of $1103.77 o Report is attached below o Michelle will follow up with Sheriff Ernest about a possible BPD match Boone County Fair o All items have been purchased and have arrived. Fees have been paid. o We need insurance for the booth for the fair. It will cost approximately $75. o We still can use some help during the fair in the evenings and Friday and Saturday mornings. Needs Assessment Report o The needs assessment report was distributed. The identified problem substances were alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, and inhalants. The contributing factors included permissive community, family, and youth norms (attitudes), provision of alcohol to minors by parents, low perception of risk of harm by youth, and a high rate of depressive feelings and suicidal ideations. These findings give us a direction for our strategic plan. Strategic Planning o Kristina attended a two-day training as a part of our Strategic Prevention Framework Training of Facilitators year-long training program. We discussed the need to utilize a comprehensive approach using evidence-based strategies which address the local contributing factors that we found in the community needs assessment. We must use multiple strategies across multiple contexts to achieve population-level change. See pages 7-10 in the attached guide. o Steering Committee and Leadership- We will have a one-day retreat to work on the plan. If you are interested in working on the Strategic Plan, please let Kristina Olsen know. This will be our road map for our work. Secretary- Danielle has stepped down as Secretary due to work schedule. She will continue as a member. We are looking for a new Secretary. If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, please contact Ellen, Michelle, or Kristina. Next Meeting- Friday, August 21, 8:30am @ Boone County Health Department. We will return to an afternoon schedule in the fall.
