English 8 Name__________________________________ Midterm Exam Review Guide Mr. Macek The 11 Days of Christmas? Introduction: It’s beginning to look a lot like….midterms? Well, it doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, but in this season of socializing, shopping, receiving presents, complaining about received presents, returning received presents, overeating, watching The Grinch 25 times, wishing for snow, and doing as little school work as possible, it is prudent to remember that exams are right around the corner. So have yourself a merry little review session by adhering to the following schedule: Day 1: Put books aside, do something fun, tell your parents you love them. Day 2: Continue reading The Pearl, which needs to be done by January 3rd. Ask your mom what she would like for Christmas. Revive her. Write it down. Make plans to get it. Day 3: Pray, eat a nutritious breakfast, have fun, assemble old quizzes and handouts for Tom Sawyer and the stories/poems listed on the back. [Note: These quizzes and handouts are a handy study guide.] Day 4: If there is snow, go sledding. If there is no snow…study. (Don’t blame me, blame the weatherman). Continue reading and reviewing stories. If you love The Pearl, consider a career in teaching. Pray Day 5: Spend quality time with your family. Pray. Review old quizzes for Tom Sawyer by correcting the questions you got wrong. Review other stories/poems or grammar. Day 6: Watch A Christmas Story and laugh. Pet your dog. If you don’t have a dog, consider getting one so you can pet it. Ask your dad about his childhood. Act interested. Pray. Review grammar Day 7: Try to remember all of your teachers’ names. Finish review of Tom Sawyer. Reflect on your good fortune. Pray. Day 8: Read The Pearl works. Pray (for snow, for the Ravens to win the Super Bowl….just pray). Make cookies with your mom. Call your grandparents just to say “hi.” Review stories. Day 9: Review old reading quizzes and grammar. Correct answers you got wrong. Do something fun. Eat dinner with your entire family, if possible. Call family members you miss. Watch A Charlie Brown Christmas special. Be glad you’re not Charlie Brown when it comes to kicking the football or directing the Christmas play. Pray. Day 10: Eat your vegetables. Pray. Consider how lucky you are. If possible, build a snowman. Day 11: Finish The Pearl. Write down questions you have about the novel so that you can ask them in class. Pray. Wish everyone you see a Happy New Year. Do something fun. Pray. Enjoy your last day of break. Get a good night’s sleep. Literature to review: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
