Tener Expressions & Present Progressive miércoles, el once de noviembre Present Progressive • We already know that the present tense = the person doing the action does or is doing the action. • We use the present progressive to REALLY emphasize that something is currently unfolding. • We express this in English with verbs that end in –ing • How do we express this in Spanish? How to form the gerund in the present progressive • -AR verbs: remove –AR, add –ANDO • -ER and –IR verbs: remove –ER or –IR, add –IENDO. • If the stem of –er or –ir verbs ends in a vowel, we add –yendo – leer – oír – ir leyendo oyendo yendo • For example, if I want to tell someone that I’m dancing right now, exactly this moment as we speak, I would say • “Estoy bailando.” • If I wanted to ask someone what they were currently doing, right now, as we speak, I would say: • “¿Qué estás haciendo? Tener Expressions Expresiones con tener • We use tener to express a variety of states and emotions in Spanish.
