Welcome To Mrs. Herscoe’s Classroom 3-303 own text here… Get To Know Your Teacher I am your child’s third grade teacher for Math, Science, and Social Studies. I have been teaching third grade for 20 years at Chartiers Valley Intermediate School. I am also Room 302/308’s Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher. I look forward to teaching your child many new Math, Science and Social Studies concepts. Daily Schedule We follow a six day schedule for specials. A day calendar can be found on the CVIS main page. Day 1 – GYM Day 2 – DML * Day 3 – ART Day 4 – GYM Day 5 – MUSIC Day 6 – SPANISH * DML - Library Contact Information Please contact me with questions, concerns, or just to see how your child is doing. Email sherscoe@cvsd.net Phone – 412-429-2233 ext. 6423 Please allow at least 24 hours for a response. Email is the fastest way to reach me. Classroom Management Students each have a READY to LEARN chart. Students can clip up throughout the day to earn stickers. Once a child earns 6 stickers they choose a reward from the coupon book. Our classroom also has an opportunity to earn rewards as a class using the same READY to LEARN chart. The class earns points each day for clipping up on the chart. Once the students earn three points they turn over a letter. Once the secret word is spelled out the class earns a reward party. Homework Students copy their homework assignments from the classroom board, into their Trackers. Please check their Trackers for daily assignments and to see if they have earned stickers. Homework assignments can also be found on my website, under the Daily Homework link. Students return their homework to the appropriate teacher the next morning when they come in to school or go to the class where the homework was assigned. Students who do not turn in an assignment on the assigned day receive a missed homework mark. If students miss 3 homework assignments they will receive after school detention. Parents will be notified, with a note in the tracker if your child has missed a homework assignment. You will receive a phone call if your child receives after school detention. Transportation via a bus or parent pick up will also be discussed when you are notified. Boomerang Folder 303 Students in 303 have a folder called a Boomerang folder. This folder should come home every night. Please check the HOMEWORK pocket for your child’s homework. Please check the FOR PARENT pocket for notes and information for you. Please check the THINGS TO STAY HOME and empty. Please keep the papers in the FOR TEACHER pocket. These are things we are still using in class. Classroom Webpage I have a classroom webpage on the CVIS website. You can get to it by going to the Intermediate School and locate my webpage under school staff. Please check this site for daily homework assignments in Math, Science, and Social Studies. You can also find other important information about my class on my webpage. Helpful links to Math and Science textbooks and extra practice are also found on my webpage. I do update it with new links and information so please check it often. Student Absences When your child is absent please call the school to let them know. Check my website for homework. Some may be done online. If you want homework for your child you can call the school and have it sent home with a neighbor, or you can pick it up. When your child returns to school please send in a note letting the office know why your child was absent. Important Forms Please be sure to refer to our Student Handbook for policies and procedures. Your child received one at the beginning of the school year. Please check the Intermediate School website for Educational Trip forms. Math Your child will use the Math Expressions Common Core math book this year. The student textbook is consumable so we will tear out the pages as we complete them for review. You can access your child’s work book online as well as, iTools, and Mega Math. See the link on my webpage. To access the site your child enters their first initial, last name, 2025. Their password is cvsd, with their student id number. From time to time I may assign online practice lessons. They can be found under the TO DO list once they log in. Social Studies Throughout the year your child will learn about our government, maps, communities, transportation, history, and current events. We will use Scholastic News to learn about current events. Your child will receive a copy each week. Science This year your child will complete units on Earth Materials, Ideas and Inventions, Animal Studies, Weather, Landforms, and Moon Phases. Your child will use science notebooks to observe, investigate and explore many concepts. Through hands on investigations and observations students will learn how to make scientific conclusions and use what was learned in their real life. Get Involved Throughout the year we may need your help in our classroom. Please volunteer to help out. Look for notices in your child’s Boomerang folder. As we learn new topics and concepts please let me know if you have something to share with our class to enhance what we are learning. We are always trying to make what we are learning REAL. Email me with your ideas for connections. Extra Information Please join the PTG. Our PTG helps to bring exciting and educational experiences to your child. Your help and support is always needed. Please participate in our school programs to help raise money to bring programs to our school. Check out the PTG link on the Intermediate School site to see all the programs you can participate in.
