By: Diego Gonzalez In this PowerPoint presentation, I will be talking about the Earth’s core which includes the crust, lithosphere, asthenosphere, mantle, outer core, and inner core. Also, I will include some fun facts at the end of the presentation. The first layer of the Earth is the Earth’s crust, which is made up of two kinds of crust: the continental crust and oceanic crust. The oceanic crust is the crust that forms the bottom of the ocean. The continental crust is the crust that forms the continents. The crust consists of volcano’s, mountains, and etc. The crust is about 500 to 1,000 degrees Celsius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crust and 6th Grade Notebook The lithosphere is the layer between the crust and the asthenosphere. The lithosphere is broken into sections by tectonic plates. The lithosphere causes the earthquakes and tsunami’s with the movement of the plates. The lithosphere is about 1,000 degrees celsius. http://education.nationalgeographic.com/education/encyclo pedia/lithosphere and 6th Grade Notebook The asthenosphere is the layer that lies between the lithosphere and the upper mantle. The asthenosphere is a solid layer and the plates of the lithosphere move at the top of the layer. The asthenosphere was found by scientists when an earthquake occurred. The asthenosphere is around 1,500 to 2,000 degrees Celsius. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asthenosphere and 6th Grade Notebook The mantle is the largest layer in the Earth’s core and it is between the crust and outer core. The mantle is made up of rock that is very hot, but solid. This layer of the Earth’s core is about 2,500 to 3,000 degrees Celsius. Also, the mantle has two layers: the upper and lower mantle. 6th grade notebook The upper mantle is the layer between the crust and the lower mantle. The upper mantle is made up of solid rock and deep in the upper mantle there is magma. The upper mantle is like an ocean filled with magma. http://geology.about.com/od/mantle/tp/mantleintro. htm The lower mantle is the layer between the upper mantle and outer core. The lower mantle is solid but the heat makes the rock almost turn into a liquid form. Also, the lower mantle contains many kinds of minerals. http://www.ask.com/science/earth-s-lower-mantle The outer core is the layer between the lower mantle and inner core. It is one of the hottest layers of the Earth’s interior with the temperature of 5,000 degrees Celsius. Scientists have not learned that much from the outer core because of its heat. Mostly everything in this layer is magma. 6th Grade Notebook The inner core is the last layer of our journey into the Earth’s core. The inner core is the hottest layer with the temperature of 6,000 degrees Celsius. The inner core creates the Earth’s magnetic field with the elements it has. 6th Grade Notebook Deep in the core there are radioactive elements. The outer core contains liquid iron. The continental crust is made out of the light colored rock called granitic. The oceanic crust is made out of the dark colored rock called basaltic. 6th Grade Notebook
