Greetings!
The 2014 – 2015 school year is quickly approaching and we are excited to share all the incredible changes with you and your
children. During the summer months Oak Construction Company has been very busy! We will open with many new
classrooms and a new entrance. This newsletter serves to provide you with some information to help you when returning to
school in August.
Communication is the Key to Success!
Throughout the school year we would like to maintain great communication. There are many places to get information about
the school and events happening.
Monthly Newsletter – this newsletter is sent home at the beginning of the month and has all the events
happening at the school for the month as well as useful information.
Web Page - Please be sure to bookmark our web page so that you can stay current on events. The
newsletter is also posted on this page as well.
Twitter – we have a Twitter account and will be posting events at the school weekly. We want to use
this tool to communicate with parents and share the great happenings at school with the students. @MPESAACPS
Connect Ed – important events will be shared throughout the year. We will also be sending emails and text
messages through Connect Ed.
Thursday Folders – Teachers will send home graded work in a folder on Thursdays.
Parent Connect xp – This online connection gives you daily updates for your child’s grades.
Agenda Book – The first few pages includes lots of great information.
In addition to these ways, we ask that you communicate with us! Please make sure that we receive the following:
* Current address and phone numbers.
* Written notes in the event of a change in transportation.
* 24 hours notice for when you want to hold a conference with a teacher or visit the classroom.
* Written notes for early dismissal – the cut off time for early dismissal is 2:45 p.m. Students will not be allowed to
go home on early dismissal after 2:45 p.m. They will be dismissed at the regular time of 3:10 p.m.

El año escolar 2014 – 2015 se está muy cerca y estamos emocionados de compartir todos los increíbles cambios con usted y
su hijo/a. Durante los meses de verano la Compañía de Construcción Oak ha estado muy ocupada! Vamos abrir muchas
nuevas aulas y nueva entrada. Este boletín de noticias sirve para proporcionarles alguna información para ayudarles cuando
regresen a la escuela en Agosto.

In the past, parents have been able to come into school with their child on the first day. Due to
security procedures we are being asked to implement, we will not be doing this anymore.
Instead, we will be welcoming all students and their families to join us in a “Sneak a Peek at
your Seat” Open House event held on Monday, August 25th from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
At this event, students and families will have the opportunity to tour the new sections of the
school, see their classrooms, and meet their new teachers. We are very excited to be able to have
this opportunity to welcome you back to a new school year!

What to expect on the First Day of School
There are several changes dues to us moving to the other side of the building:
1. Our new address is 1 George and Marion Phelps Lane, Annapolis, MD 21401.
2. The Chinquapin Round Road is closed to all except construction workers.
3. No visitors will be allowed entrance to the parking lot between 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. and
2:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. every day. This will be for buses only.
4. Car riders will be dropped off, “Kiss and Go” along George and Marion Phelps Lane. Drop
off is on the school side of the building only. Please do not drop off your student in a place
where they have to cross a street.
5. Walkers will be welcomes at the intersection of George and Marion Phelps Lane and
Vincent Street.

The Mills-Parole Elementary
School Uniform Program
The Mills-Parole Elementary School Uniform Program was adopted to create an environment that
focuses on school performance, not individual attire. Parents and students are responsible for the
following guidelines of the school uniform policy. (AACPS Policy 902.04/JCDA)
All students are required to wear the basic uniform, which includes:


Khaki or navy blue colored pants, short, skirt or skort (no denim).
Navy, white or light blue polo shirts (short and long sleeve) or long sleeve turtle neck (no designs).
In addition to our basic uniform, the following may be included:


Solid navy crew neck sweatshirt/sweater.
Solid navy cardigan sweater.
The garments below are not considered part of our school uniform:





Hooded or logo sweatshirts
Sweatpants, jeans or leggings worn as part of the uniform
t-shirts
jeans or Levis
cargo pants with side pockets
For safety at recess, PE, and traveling through the building, students should wear sneakers:


Flip flops, sandals and shoes with wheels are not acceptable.
Socks, tights and shoe strings in solid colors of khaki, white or navy blue must be worn every day.
Additional Information:






Uniforms must be the appropriate size with no logo.
Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
Solid, plain black, dark brown or navy blue leather or leather-like belts must go through the belt loops and fit securely around the waist.
Belt buckles should be plain.
All school uniform exception days will be announced in the newsletter (picture day, spirit day, field day, etc.).
Skirt/short length must meet AACPS dress code policy for students. The hem must be longer than fingertips when standing at attention.
Shoes must be safe and enclose the foot. Shoes may not expose students to safety hazards nor should they impede a student from moving quickly
during an evacuation of the building. Tennis shoes are recommended.
Violations:
Violations of the uniform policy will be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the AACPS Code of
Student Conduct.
Exemptions:
All students must wear the school adopted uniform every day except on "uniform exception days"
announced in the school newsletter. Any other exemptions must be discussed with the school principal.
Where to Purchase:
The Mills-Parole Elementary School Uniforms may be purchased at J.C. Penny, Target, and Old Navy,
and other local businesses as well as other internet resources.
