Why:

This is your chance to have a voice in our selection process for the 2016-2017 season. All completed proposals will be considered. Shows NOT submitted will NOT receive consideration until all proposed plays/musicals have been exhausted. In other words, the season will be determined based on the submissions we receive.

Details:

Anyone can submit a proposal for any play or musical. Proposals for cross-disciplinary devised work and/or works that are movement-based are welcomed. That said, to best serve our mission and enhance the training and education of our students, the faculty have adopted a set of guidelines that we follow to ensure that season selections reflect a variety of genres and styles throughout each student’s four-year period in school. For the 2016-2017 season, we are particularly looking for proposals in the following categories:

Musicals – Preference for Golden Age musicals (1940-1966) or more contemporary musicals reminiscent of the Golden Age (e.g., Crazy for You, 42 nd Street ).

New work – World premieres and/or plays with no previous significant productions. Playwrights in residence or involved in other ways in productions (e.g., plays written by established playwrights, alumni, students, and/or faculty; also devised work, movement intensive pieces, etc.).

Shakespeare – Plays written by William Shakespeare.

Plays by playwrights from Historically Under-represented Groups (HUG), and/or plays that feature characters from historically under-represented groups.

Examples: plays by and/or about people of color, women, LGBT, persons with disabilities, or other marginalized or oppressed groups.

Other Considerations:

If the New Work fulfills the HUG category in the rotation, then the fourth season slot can be filled by a play in any genre.

Plays with the following qualities are of particular interest.

 smaller casts

 overall reduced production requirements

 high proportion of female characters

The list above is a guide for the types of works to consider to improve the odds that your proposal will receive maximum consideration.

Thank you, we look forward to receiving your proposals!
