02/2016 SNC COORDINATOR Department: Supervisor: Status: Sacramento Neighborhood Center Deputy Executive Director Exempt Summary / Objective Under the immediate supervision of the Deputy Executive Director. The Coordinator will work in alliance with SNC employees, Fairfax County employees and the residents of the surrounding Sacramento Neighborhood to create a positive, community-based environment with an array of services and programs that meet resident needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensure compliance with Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (DNCS) contract. Foster the establishment and growth of a Sacramento Neighborhood Council that will collaborate to plan community events, programs, and activities in conjunction with SNC. In the absence of programs or activities recommended by the Council, the Coordinator will be prepared to develop programs activities and/or supplement those recommended by the Council. Actively collaborate and cooperate with other community-based groups and organizations to maintain, and provide appropriate activities to create a healthy, vibrant and successful Center. Conduct a formal assessment to identify strengths in the community (asset mapping) and to determine the specific needs for services in the community (logic model), gaps in meeting those needs, and plans to coordinate services in order to fulfill the needs. Facilitate and monitor the logic model process to ensure the successful completion of the shortterm, mid-term, and long-term goals established in the logic model. Coordinate the use of the SNC for groups, organizations, and individuals interested in using the facility for group meetings, activities and classes. Actively promote SNC, its programs and activities to the community. Publish and distribute a quarterly community newsletter; working within UCM’s policies and procedures, utilize additional media to promote Center programs and activities. Develop a network of adult and youth volunteers as resources for the Community Center. Conduct outreach on ways the Community can be involved in SNC operations, planning, and activities. Foster the development of a strong working relationship with Fairfax County agencies, including the DNCS and local school pyramid officials. 02/2016 Evaluate activities and programs held at the Center. Collect data and/or assist with the development of performance measures/indicators to measure success. Provide a quarterly report and analysis of effectiveness to the Sacramento Neighborhood Council and the Director of Community Programs. Attend all planning and oversight meetings with representatives of the Fairfax County agencies supporting this project. Prepare monthly program reports for submission to Fairfax County and weekly reports to the Deputy Executive Director Maintain and update regularly the administrative procedures manual with related forms for Center operations. Supervise all UCM Staff. Provide staff appraisals for the following SNC staff; Assistant SNC Coordinator, Computer Clubhouse Manager, Administrative Assistant and the PT Community Center Assistant. Keep the SNC staff and your immediate supervisor informed of your whereabouts throughout the day. Meet with the Director of Community Programs on a regularly scheduled basis to update on all programs and activities of the Center. Maintain an updated description of all procedures of policies and procedures for the SNC. Attend UCM Quarterly All Staff meetings when scheduling permits. Attend training programs offered as schedule permits. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DUTIES Develop a sustainable community and local leadership. Develop local asset-rich relationships which result in support and community-building. Integrate strategies that promote community connectedness and cohesiveness resulting in citizen development and contribution as the foundation for sustained solutions to challenges. Provide citizens with the skills and knowledge necessary to serve their community. Provide public forums for conversation, learning, and networking, that leads ultimately to community leaders taking action to improve current community conditions and relationships. Engage the community to work collaboratively with community-based organizations and government agencies on common issues. Provide opportunities for the community to learn about and experience the diversity of community. 02/2016 Develop leadership skills of community leaders to mobilize and sustain community-building initiatives. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS M.S.W. or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and training in related work. Proven skills in community development. Proven supervisory skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 2007 (in particular MS Word, EXCEL, and Outlook) with ability to produce a basic newsletter and calendar. Serve the public with a positive attitude. Ability to clearly demonstrate the connectedness between SNC and its participants and all other UCM programs and services. Clear understanding of grassroots approach to community development and the role of Center Coordinator in relation to Sacramento Neighborhood Council. Spanish speaking and writing skills an asset. Physical expectation: have physical stamina to fulfill all work requirements during assigned working hours. Dependability and ability to work flexible hours, which may include evening and weekend hours. TRAVEL Travel to and from satellite UCM location and meeting sites with a 3-5 mile radius is expected. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
