Successful completion of CSCI 1203 Computer Concepts and Applications or successful completion of advanced placement exam (see an adviser in Academic Counseling for details). Note that your taking this course without the prerequisite is not recommended, as basic skills learned in this course are extremely important to your understanding of Photoshop. You may take the prerequisite course during the same semester that you are taking this course.

Key Photoshop concepts and techniques plus the more advanced features and tools in the latest version of the software will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on the work area, basic photo corrections, retouching and repairing, working with selections, layer basics, masks and channels, correcting and enhancing digital photographs, typographic design, vector drawing, techniques, advanced layering, advanced compositing, preparing files for the web, working with scientific images, and producing and printing consistent color. This is the first course to prepare students with the skills for continued creative study in CSYS 1073 Advanced Photoshop. Students will learn about the benefits of obtaining Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) and/or Adobe Certified Expert

(ACE) status through industry certification. Prerequisite: CSCI 1203 or instructor approval.


Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

The ability to use a search engine.

The ability to preview Word and PowerPoint documents on the web.

The ability to use email for communication and to send an email attachment.

The ability to create, rename, copy, move, and delete files/folders.

 The ability to zip files for submission.


Strategies include brief lectures with assignments, process-oriented projects, discussion board activities, quizzes/exams, and web/email use with all activities supported via Blackboard. Log in using your Student ID and password. Note that you may experience submission problems when using Internet Explorer as your browser; Safari and Chrome perform better file transfer with


Students using Blackboard on public computers should click the Logout button to properly exit

Blackboard (before closing the web browser). Closing the web browser will not log out a student from Blackboard. If a student does not log out, the next user to access Blackboard may find that he or she is already logged in as the previous user with access to all class work and grades. After a fixed period of time, students may find themselves automatically logged out of Blackboard. This will be noticeable, as several of the category links on the left will disappear. Should this happen, close your browser and login to Blackboard again.

Course Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class.

Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of

“F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may:

 require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test;

Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question; 

Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class;

Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester.

Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such request to the Dean of Student Services.
