Textbooks and supplies may be purchased at the TCC NE Campus Bookstore.
Description:
This advanced level course develops English skills in reading, writing, speaking and
listening. Placement is determined by the ESLG Program.
Objectives:
The students will –
1. Develop reading skills.
2. Develop an awareness of grammar.
3. Develop skills with technology such as the computer and Blackboard.
4. Develop writing ability by applying grammatical knowledge.
Methods:
Teaching methods will include lecture and class discussion, pair and group work, listening
exercises, and independent writing. Most of the work will be completed on the
Blackboard course site. Students will participate in discussions posted on the course site,
and homework will be turned in on the Blackboard site.
Prerequisites: Appropriate entrance exam qualification or promotion from the previous level.

The “D” at the beginning of the grade indicates that this class is a zero level class and does not count for
graduation credit.

Assignment and test grades will be posted on Blackboard at bb.tulsacc.edu.
Students should monitor Blackboard to ensure their accuracy.

CLASS POLICIES
Attendance:
Students who miss more than 25% of class meetings will be with dropped from
the course unless prior arrangements are made with the teacher.
Late Assignments:
Students who are absent should check the Blackboard website or contact the
instructor about make-up work and tests. Make up situations will have to be
arranged with the teacher. Make ups will only be allowed when the student has
previously made arrangements with the teacher or in cases of medical
emergencies.
Communication:
All TCC students receive a designated “MyTCC” email address (ex:
jane_doe@mail.tulsacc.edu). All communications to you about TCC and course
assignments will be sent to your MyTCC email address.
Etiquette:
Open and mutually respectful communication of varied opinions, beliefs, and
perspectives during classroom or online discussions encourages the free
exchange of ideas that is essential to higher learning and to the ability to learn
from each other. While disagreement in class is acceptable, showing disrespect
to and interfering with the learning of others in the class will not be tolerated
and may lead to expulsion from class.
Cell Phones/
Electronic Devices:
Students may not use phones or other electronic devices in class nor have them
out. All phones and electronics must be turned off or put in silent mode during
class.

Conduct:
Students are expected to abide by the rules and policies outlined in the TCC
Catalog, TCC Student Handbook, and Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook.
Failure to comply with these rules and policies could lead to expulsion from the
class.
Syllabus Changes:
Occasionally, changes to the syllabus may be necessary. Students will be
notified of any changes to the syllabus in writing.

SCHOOL POLICIES
School Closing:
TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise,
TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations. This
information is also posted on the TCC website (www.tulsacc.edu).
Withdrawal:
The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of
any class. Contact the Counseling Office at any TCC campus to initiate
withdrawal from a course (“W” grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Check
the TCC Academic Calendar for deadlines. Students who stop participating in the
course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have
financial aid consequences for the student.
Refunds:
All students will receive a debit card. These cards are how TCC will issue any and
all refunds to the student for classes. Students should keep these cards in a safe
place. These cards will only be issued once. Students will be charged a fee for
replacement cards. Read the information that comes with the card carefully.
Students my opt for a direct deposit to a bank account instead. Instructions
come with the card on how to do that.

Academic
Dishonesty:
Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about
one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or
misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa
Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating
certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary
actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of
disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic
dishonesty a faculty member may:




require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the
student to complete a substitute assignment or test;
Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question;
Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or
administratively withdraw the student from the class;
Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester.
Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the
administrative level by submitting such request to the Dean of Student Services.
