Common Core Standards: N/A Before Activity: Bell Ringer: Drawing Skills on Smartboard During Activity: Students will continue to draw radial name design and finish coloring it with markers. After Activity: -Students will turn in Radial Name Design to be graded. -Clean-up: Students must put away supplies safely and responsibly. Homework: N/A Assessments: Visually assess students’ response to direct instructions. Radial Name design will be graded with rubric on participation, response to directions, and met criteria for 100 points. AL Course of Study Objective(s): 4: Apply the elements of art and principles of design to the production of two-dimensional artwork. 6: Demonstrate safe and responsible handling of art materials, including clean up, storage, and replenishment of supplies where applicable. Common Core Standards: N/A Before Activity: Bell Ringer: Define the following using ArtTalk: Sculpture, Relief Sculpture, Low relief and High relief (found on page 106) During Activity: Students will be shown several examples of different types of Relief sculpture on the Smartboard. Each student will then follow direct instructions to create a low relief sculpture which incorporates radial balance. They will be given a large white square sheet of paper and several 2” x 2” sheets of different neon colored paper. Using a “paper airplane” fold pattern, students will fold the 2” squares into 3D shapes to glue on their larger sheet in a creative radial balance design. Students must measure to locate center point of larger square before beginning their design. After Activity: Responsible Clean-Up/ Exit Slip: How does this new project relate to our previous assignment, “Radial Name Designs”? How is it different? Homework: N/A Assessments: Visually assess students’ response to direct instructions. Exit Slip will assess individual student understanding of prior and new knowledge. AL Course of Study Objective(s): 2: Create original works of art using reflective ideas, personal experiences, and imaginary content. Common Core Standards: N/A Before Activity: Bell Ringer: Writing Prompt- “If I had a time machine, I would…” (Students brainstorm to write 3-5 sentences in their bell ringer folders.) During Activity: Students will be given an “Imagination Workout” worksheet to complete. This assignment has 11 boxes with different abstract lines and shapes in them. Instructions are for students to look at the lines within each box and create a picture from what they see. Students should work individually to brainstorm on their own and use their own creativity and imagination to draw their own ideas. After Activity: If students finish early, they may work on the “Mystery Grid” drawing skills assignment on the back of the “Imagination Workout” sheet. They will draw what they see in each pictured box in the appropriate numbered square at the bottom of the page. If they do this correctly, an image should appear. Homework: N/A Assessments: Worksheets will be graded on completion and overall participation.
