Anatomy Course Expectations Instructor: Summer Graber Contact Info: e-mail: summer_graber@redlodge.k12.mt.us Phone: 446 – 1903 Ext 133 Anatomy Class: During the semester the class will become a community of learners. There will be many opportunities for cooperative learning, but each individual is expected to demonstrate honest effort and independent thinking. Hands on labs will deal with body parts, fluids and other biological specimens. Please make sure you are willing to attempt these labs. I will treat you with respect and courtesy and expect you to do the same for your classmates and me. Supplies: You will need to bring the following items every day. - Portable Hard Drive (jump drive or other device) - Science Binder (3 ring binder) - Paper (to be stored in binder) - Pencils and Pens Code of Conduct 1. Be Responsible: Be ready: Have a pencil, paper and any other materials needed for the day. Be on time: This means you are in your seat when the bell rings. Complete homework: Turn in homework on time. Ask for missed work: It is your responsibility to ask for missed work. Be ready to learn: Engage your brain before entering my class. Contribute to a positive classroom: keep a positive attitude. 2. Be Respectful: Stay quiet and seated when the teacher or another student is talking. NO CELL PHONES or personal electronic devices. BE KIND!! There is to be NO name calling or “put downs” in my class. Respect Others: Respect other people’s space and property. No Cussing: Appropriate language will be used at all times. 3. Obey All School Rules: The school rules apply while you are in my classroom. Consequences: For misconduct during non- lab activities the following consequence will occur. First Offense: Warning Second Offense: Teacher Conference after school Third Offense: Call to parents/guardian and a referral to the principal. Due to the health safety issues, a warning will not be given if misconduct occurs during lab time. A failing grade will be given for that lab and a conference between Anatomy Course Expectations the student, parent and myself will occur shortly after that lab time. If misconduct occurs a second time during lab then consequences will be at teacher discretion. Late Work Late homework will not be accepted. Large projects and Labs will be accepted for half credit with in one week after assignment was originally due. After one week labs and projects will not be accepted Grades Your grades will be based on dividing the number of points you earn by the total number of points in the class. However, homework is usually only 10points per assignment, Labs are generally worth 20-30 points per assignment and tests are worth 40-60 points per test. Your final exam is worth 10% of your total grade. Letter Grades: 100-90% A 89-80% B 79-70% C 69-60% D 59-0% F Homework: Homework is assigned to prepare students for upcoming lessons and to help reinforce what has been taught in class. It helps students develop responsibility, self-discipline and organization. Homework will be assigned at least 3 times a week. It will frequently involve reading articles or completing a worksheet. Please help your student by finding a quiet time and place for students to do homework. Late homework will not be accepted. Absence Procedures: You are responsible for getting the assignments you missed, due to absence, on the day you return to school. However, if the absence was a pre-arranged activity you must get class work and homework BEFORE you leave. The number of days you have to make up missed work will depend on the number of days you missed, however generally you will be given two days to make up missed assignments. Tools for Effective Studying: Textbooks will be handed out for each student. Classroom notes and power point slides will be available to students via my website, however notes cover the same information as the text. Students will also have a file folder kept in the classroom that will contain all of the students graded work. This allows students to look back over assignments for study purposes and allows you (the parent or guardian) to come in any time and see the students work.
